Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi Rani,

I dont think it is a problem to provide this deposit form to her. we did that too (twice actually) and they still didnt charge our credit card (its been 3 months now). I think its more a security thing that you are serious about your wedding date. dont you think that as well as you want to make sure they reserve your date, they want to make sure that you dont change your mind?

I wouldnt worry so much. Most other resorts want much higher deposits (like half moon, jamaica wanted $8000) thats why we were really glad to hear that Beverly only wanted 25% of the chosen wedding package when we finally chose the GBPJ. But like I said, we are more worried about the fact that even though we provided her the form they still didnt charge our credit card for the deposit...

@ kerrij: are you allowed to choose other vendors for flowers/decoration/photos than they offer? dont you have to pay fees if you bring outside vendors? does jan´s flowers have a website too? does beverly really organize all the decoration stuff? I am a little worried that everything is a little unorganized with this resort

Hi Christinak82 )) Thanks a lot for replying. I do feel less worried now. I didn't even know other resorts wanted such a huge deposit, I think it is kind of insane to give them $8000 of deposit. However, although Beverly reserved already a date for us I still have not booked a hotel (this Haiti earth quake happened that day) and still haven't gotten back to her with our credit. I hope she won't give my date away to anyone))

You asked Kerrij about jan's flowers and although I am not her but here is the link (I wonder if I actually can post one here? ) Welcome to Jans Flowers Jamaica , the site isn't very informative though.

I was thinking of using that too as I heard Tai flora is kind of expensive. On the other hand my friend did just fine with what her package offered.

P.S. I think Beverly must have some sort of assitant like Chandlyn in RIU, just to cope with all the brides))

Hey, ya you can totally bring in outside vendors, even outside photographers! i double checked because i was goign to hire a local photog but ended up flying one down from home for cheaper and get more stuff! flowers you can bring your own and so i'm sure decor or antyhing else. Beverly and one other lady are the WCs and they do it all i think. i'm not sure if the other girl is an asst or not like at the RIU, but the GBP doesn't have nearly as many weddings at the RIU, some resorts have like 3 weddings a day, and i know that a couple of days before my wedding i wanted to use the gazebo so i asked if there were other weddings taking place that day and there isn't, and i'm the only one on our day. i love that there aren't a zillion weddings, makes our extra special! and i already have my meeting set up with Beverly the day after we get there, march6 at 10am! FI and i might be hurting as we are all going out to the disco our first night! hehehe

but i wouldn't worry about unorganized. i'm sure they have it fully under control!

I still haven't had to pay a deposit, i've asked her a couple times and she said nope, not til we are there. we have everything in writing so we know its ours. but i'm surprised she let you book your date without having a room even booked.

@ kerrij: thank you for all the information. I hope you will provide more information after your wedding. most brides stop posting in this forum after they get married :-(

I like the fact with the few weddings at gbpj too... it is crazy though how different the resorts handle all the wedding stuff... for example at half moon they wanted $500 for each outside vendor, the ritz carlton just didnt allow any, etc...

oh by the way... we might be flying down to jamaica around the beginning of march to see the resort... maybe I will see your wedding kerrij, thats so funny...

I find that Beverly is still hit or miss. I sent her another email today, and it got bounced back - I guess that her email is full?

So I was in the middle of booking my hair and makeup with the spa, when Paula emailed me back to tell me that they would no longer be the ones running the spa when I was there to get married. I emailed Beverly to ask what was going on, and she just gave me Paula's info again. Seems a little disorganized... I eventually got the new info, and the person that responded told me to just come by when I arrive. I am a little hesitant to not have the appointments booked before hand.... I'm not trying to be a bridezilla, but I am spending thousands of dollars to get married at their resort, not to mention all the money my family has paid... So I expect that everything goes smoothly.

About florists... I contacted Tai Floral and they have come up with the perfect set up for me. The only problem with it is that it is very expensive. It isn't a ton of flowers, and it's costing over $2k. I took that quote and contacted Jan's to see what they would charge for something similar - and it's about a grand less. Jan's doesn't seem to organized... I had to contact them twice before they responded, so I'm not sure if I want to use them. Does anyone know of anyone that has used them? And if they are ok?

That's all for now! Time is ticking down!

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm behind on all the chit chat!

I emailed paula to the other day to book my appt and she said they didn't do GBP anymore...i was like, uhhh we just had about 4 emails back and forth and each eamil i stated the hotel name, and then finally she's like, oh i thought it was grand Palladium! oy! I have talked to the new spa rep via email and just waiting to book our hair and pedi's when i hear back! i am def goign to book it before we get there. i'll tell him to put it in his books! hahah

Julia, we have 47 booked! it's going to be so fun i cannot wait!

try doing a search on Jan's, there is lots of talk about them, but like Christina said, most brides stop posting after their wedding...so hopefully you can find some info. I actually decided against ordering extra flowers other than flower girl flowers. But Tai is actually doing them for way cheaper than i thought now, so that is good. i bought parasols and fans for uber cheap for the BMs and moms instead.

Beverly is getting on my nervous! hahah she never responds anymore. argh! so i'll just leave it for another couple weeks and then i'm going to call her. last time i called another WC there said she'd be back in 15 mins. so i called back in 20 and she wasn't there so the WC helped me and said she'd reply to the email i've been waiting so long on.

Julia i also heard one other girl got her steel drum band for free! i wonder how we can snake some freebies too! hehehe I can't believe i'm just 25 days away until we leave!

I really wish there were some past brides that got married here. i haven't seen any pics or anything even on trip advisor...just the odd one from someone who went to a friends wedding there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
