Would it be weird to have unofficial bridemaids

Recommended Posts

I really would refer to them more as special guests.

Anyway, my FI is only having one guy stand with him, so I was just going to have my sister. I wanted to show how special my two best friends are. I was thinking of having them where the same color as my sister.

What do you think?

I know they wouldn't mind, would probably be more honored then anything.

I am not having bridesmaid and FI isn't having groomsmen... However we have both spoken to friends that we have asked to do things for us to help the day run smoothly and they will get special mention in our speeches. Example FI's brother will sort of be our MC (we're a small group so just need someone to keep the train on the tracks). My gfriend will help with other stuff (long list hehehehe, I'll tell her later).

I think when you include anyone in your special day it just makes them feel very special and appreciated. I am sure they will be honored....

I have heard of others doing this and asking friends that they would have asked to be in the wedding party to wear a certain color. I heard it got very complicated between the friends so they nixed the idea entirely. I toyed with the idea- but decided to stick to my decision. We aren't having a wedding party. I simply told those that I would have invited- that if we were to have a wedding party they would have been chosen, but we decided against having a wedding party. They were all thrilled- both that they knew they were important to us- and that they did not have to go out and buy an outfit that they would never wear again. I also explained that since the wedding was not going to be large- we felt a wedding party would be out of place and they all understood. We are thinking of ways to include my fiance's sister and my brother into the ceremony. That's just my situation. It might be a little strange if they wore the same color- but weren't bridesmaids (what's the difference then?). But I have heard of others doing this and if you think it will work out- then why not.

I say do whatever fits your situation best......BUT, I would have no problem having 3 girls stand up for me and my FI only have 1 guy.

We aren't having wedding parties, but asked 2 friends each to be witnesses on our marriage licence. My girlfriends were great with that.....and super excited that they can wear whatever they want!

I actually only had my sister and my bestfriend stand up next to me but i wanted my other girls to stand up next to me too. Because we didn't have a lot of people fly down to Cancun I didn't want everybody standing next to me and nobody seated so I had them all wear one of my colors. They understood and everbody loved that they were all wearing the same color..

ahh i am in the same boat! my FI is having just his best man up with him. i on the other hand have 3 really close best friends plus my sister.

i would love to have them all up there with me, but i am thinking it might be a little strange having everyone stand there...and really no one sitting.

we have a small crowd...28 ppl

i am not super close with my sister, but still its like that unwritten rule.....to have her up there.

I think it is a GREAT idea!!!!! I did this too. Only had my sisters in the wedding, then friends who came were my "honarary" BMs and they wore a shade of blue:) Cute pictures too. Plus, they picked out what they wanted to wear which was nice bc I wasn't asking them to spend more $$ on a dress, etc.

My girlfriend and I are both getting married this summer but both had to limit the sizes of our wedding parties. Since we couldn't make it work to be in each others wedding parties, we're "assigning" each other a role to take care of a certain part of the others wedding. For example - I am the Wedding Reception Design Coordinator (haha, yes there was some wine drinking involved with this title!) and my girlfriend wanted me to be in charge of all her setup details because she knows that I'll be every bit as particular about getting things done as she would. Now I realize this wouldn't specifically work for a DW, but hopefully the idea is something you can use to include the girls in some way other than an "official" bridesmaid position.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
