My fiance (soon to be husband) is born, raised and currently living in the Dominican Republic. We met April 18th 2008 while I was on vacation and he was taking a long weekend off to relax in the hotel I was staying in...got engaged September 26th 2009 and getting married February 27th 2010 in Riu Bachata, Puerto Plata.

The whole process of "proving" our relationship is a bit of a downer but it's just something that must be done in order to be together.

I can totally relate to having to prove your relationship. My fiance is not Dominican but is a Dominican permanent resident and has been living and working in DR; we met almost 4 years ago while we were both on vacation with friends and never imagined that just a few short years later we would be engaged!

Just found this thread, but hope it can update now..

FI and I are both Dominican, he was born in DR and has been living in NY since he was 10. I was born and raised here, but my family is Dominican.

This is the main reason we decided on Punta Cana and not Mexico, so our family that lives in the DR can go.

3 of my cousins married woman from the DR and I know it takes quite a while for the whole process, but I believe they were here about a year after the wedding.

I know this doesn't help much and I know it kind of sucks but hopefully everything will be done soon.

Ya, ours will be about a year after the wedding as well (hopefully!). Doesn't help that my stupid resort took 3 months after the certificate was issued to MAIL IT TO ME! I could have had it the first 2 weeks in December, instead I got it March 4th!

I'm praying that we don't have any problems during the process. Fingers crossed!

Congrats! When was your wedding? What part of the Dominican is your husband from? Will you be moving there or him to Canada?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
