Please help! Riu Ocho Rios

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies! We are planning to get married Jan 11 2011. I have been trying to do my own research on resorts before going to a travel agent. I emailed the wedding department at Riu and asked for a few more details, but they advised me to check back in March 2010 for prices and wouldn't give me any more information. I don't want to wait until March just to decide which resort we will go to as I would like to get an idea of pricing to my guests.

For the Caprice Package that they offer, I see it says semi private dinner for couple and guests, now is this held at one of the all inclusive restaurants? Or will I also have to pay seperately for my guests dinners? Also, did the pricing of the rooms for your guests seem resonable, was there a discount for multiple bookings?

I would appreciate any information anyone has to help me out in getting a better idea of Riu!

Thank you!!

Hi

I am actually planning a wedding at the Riu Ocho Rios in May 2011. I also got the same answer, nothing can be done til March 2010. I have gotten a ton of info from this site to get answers to questions I already have. We are looking to do the free package. We are probably having about 30 people and are looking to rent out the disco for 2 hours after the dinner. The dinner is included. This site will definitely help answer as many questions as you have. It looks like a beautiful resort and all the reviews from brides that already got married there seem they were very happy with the turnout. Good luck with your planning. I found my info by just searching for Riu Ocho Rios reviews. It seemed to give a bunch of info we were looking for.

I am also planning a wedding at Riu Ocho Rios in October 2010. My understanding is that the dinner is included in the wedding price. This makes sense only because they require that 80% of your guests stay at the resort, which is all-inclusive, so the guests have already paid for their meals. Looking forward to continuing my wedding planning! I'll keep you posted!

I am getting married in January 2010. The semi-private dinner is at an all inclusive restaurant, meals for your guest are already paid for. You will pay extra if you want a private reception for 2010 it is $50.00/pers. Extra is charged for almost everything, different flowers, more decoration, more wine, bigger cake, white chairs, etc... you can find all the prices for 2010 on the Riu Wedding site. You can expect to pay at leat 10 or 15% more in 2011 if I compare prices from 2009 to 2010. We did have a discount for multiple booking, to get it though you have to have at least 10 rooms booked. Hope this help. Have fun planning!

I just got married at ROR last week, so I can't say anything about pricing for 2011 but I can tell you that the dinner in the free package will be at the Mammee Bay steakhouse and it isn't private, unless you have more than 50 guests - then you have to have it at Plantation restauant. I think the best deal is to go with the free package and then add on the extras that are most important to you. We actually decided to do a private dinner/reception at Plantation restaurant with the steakhouse menu to have a bit more privacy, and because the steakhouse only offers beer and wine with dinner - no drinks. We paid extra for a bartender and it was totally worth it. The dinner was great as well, the best meal we had the whole week. I thought Michael was a great photographer too, we only paid him for 4 hours total including the TTD session, and I have over 1000 photos to choose from! Please let me know if you have any other specific questions I can answer, this forum was so helpful for me in my planning and I feel it's my duty to do the same for any future brides!

Hi Kristie

Congratulations on your wedding! I have a question about Michael. I got his current price list. When you get him for 4 hours, is this 4 hours straight? This may be a stupid question but I wasnt quite sure how this worked. If you want him for when you cut the cake and do your dances, do you paay him by the hour straight through? Thanks!

Hi,

I'm getting married at ROR on December 10, 2009. I am going to have the resort's free wedding package and may or may not get a few upgrades when we arrive.

now is this held at one of the all inclusive restaurants?

Yes, dinner is held at one of the all inclusive restaurants. I know the free package covers dinner at the Mammee Bay Steakhouse (although it is not private but semi-private). I haven't read any complaints from anyone in this forum who had the semi-private dinner. The private dinner is a separate add on/ upgrade and there is a per person charge.

Or will I also have to pay seperately for my guests dinners?

A private reception will require a per person charge. It is true that 80% of your guests are required to stay at your resort to avoid cancellation of your wedding, so most guests will already be covered for the meal since the restaurant is on site, as for other guests who do not stay at the resort they will be required to purchase a day pass to attend the wedding and reception.

Also, did the pricing of the rooms for your guests seem resonable, was there a discount for multiple bookings?

The pricing was very reasonable and one of the reasons that we booked. If you book at least 5 rooms you can get a free wedding package. However, I am unaware of any other discounts as far as multiple bookings are concerned. Here is a brief listing of some rates that we were given when we decided to create all inclusive airfare included group package for our guests through our TA's at Liberty Travel

For a 3nights/ 4 day stay December 9-12, 2009

Double Occupancy $898/per person

Single Occupancy $1.070

Triple Occupancy $885/per person

Child rate Under 12 $494

Prices may have changed and may vary depending on which agency you book with but it gives you an idea/ ball park figure.

~Good Luck and Happy Planning

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
