Please help! Riu Ocho Rios

Recommended Posts

We are getting married in Jamaica in April 2011, but are still undecided between Negril or Ocho Rios...I've been reading mixed reviews. We can't do Sandals as we will have some single people joining us, so we've opted for a RIU. Unfortunately, our local travel agents seem useless when it comes to getting info. I need help ladies! What made you choose OR?

I choose ROR becuase of the wedding packages and the price of the resort and amenities. It was most important for me to find a place that was reasonable for my guest. That was even before I knew anthing about BDW. I looked into Negril but it was more expensive and the location is off from the touristy area. I wanted something where my guest could have whatever experience they wanted plus at a price that was reasonable to me.

Now that I am on BDW, I am very happy with my choice because they have so many past brides from ROR and I am soaking in there experiences.

Hi!

We booked Michael for 5 hours and it was no problem to split the time up - he came from 3:30pm-6:00pm for the ceremony and then came to the Sea Grape at 9:00pm to take reception/cake cutting photos. We used the rest of the time the next am at Dunn's!

Congratulations on your wedding! I have a question about Michael. I got his current price list. When you get him for 4 hours, is this 4 hours straight? This may be a stupid question but I wasnt quite sure how this worked. If you want him for when you cut the cake and do your dances, do you paay him by the hour straight through? Thanks!

Thank you so much! I was wondering what happens if we had sometime in between if we didn't need him. It would quickly add up! Actually, I have a question about the flowers. Where did you get your flowers from? Did you see the free bouquets? I haven't been able to see any pics of the free package bouquet, as all the reviews I have read ordered others from florists. I'm not the pickiest about what type of flowers, they do have to be pretty, though. Thanks again!

I chose ROR because we wanted to go to Ocho Rios because we've been to Montego bay and Negril in the past and then it worked out because it was cheaper than RIU Negril. BUT my FI and I stayed at RIU Negril for a week and LOVED it! It was so nice, everyone was so friendly, no problems with rooms or service. We even rented a moped and rode around negril (NOT recommended if you have no experience FI almost killed us) We went to Ricks Cafe, did some cliff diving. Riu Negril was a great time and I would recommended it to anyone!

I'm getting married there April 16, 2011. How did you get the information for Michael and the pictures? I'm going with the free package myself and don't want to spend a lot on extras. That's part of the fun of going away and doing it - less details to worry about. Do yo uhave to reserve Michael ahead of time or do they arrange it when you meet with the wedding coordinator?

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
