Anyone DIY all their flowers?

Recommended Posts

I am planning on making my own bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. Has anyone done this? I found that I can get real touch flowers at http://www.foliagenblooms.com and Silk Flowers, Silk Wedding Flowers, and Floral Supplies. Between the two sites I can find all the flowers I am looking for. Have others found this more cost effective than just ordering from someone such as Shavon's silks or Webideas.com?

I am just nervous to spend the money and later find out I am not creative enough to design my own. Any help or personal experience would be appreciated!

I thought about making my own bouquet and bouts as well since I wanted to keep my bouquet after the wedding but I don't think I will now. I was at Michael's last night pricing out the flowers and supplies and it was going to cost me almost $100 just for the flowers alone. I was quoted $135 to have one made with real touch flowers. So it seemed to me that it wasn't much more to have someone make it that knew what they were doing. I've since found one for under $100 so I think it really depends on where you look and what you want to do. If you really want to make it then go for it and it will be that much more special and if you do go to Michaels you can always use their coupon. I'm curious though to see what other brides have to say on this.

I am in the process of DIY All of my flowers. I believe it is more cost effective. I also worry b/c although I'm creative and have taken on many artistic projects including but not limited to knitting and photoshop. I don't have alot of experience w/ flowers like none but figure how difficult can it be. I haven't got an estimate from anyone online but I've browsed the forum and seen a few ball park figures thrown out incl the one above to know that at this late in my planning process its not going to be within my budget at all. On the other hand, most of my flowers from Michael's did not cost more than $1.59 per stem. I only have two people standing in the ceremony (my FI and his BM and my MOH). I don't intend on incorporating flowers into the ceremony set up and will only use a few sprays in my centerpieces, and I kind of waited 'til the last minute and just don't have the time to place an order so its more practical for me.

I think it all depends on your budget, the look you are trying to achieve, as well as the number of arrangements you will need. As of now I'm browsing DIY flowers in this forum to get some inspiration but I will definitely post pictures of my bouquets and boutonnieres when I finish them all.

I finally finished them. As promised here are pictures of my DIY flowers. I think they turned out okay. I used blue lilies, mums, and white jasmine and indigo I think they are called hydrangea sprays to pop the colors in the bouquet. For the bouts I my FI wanted a mum instead of the lily so I used those and individual flowers from the sprays. I Hope this helps.

Have you finished them yet? I'm thinking about making my own bouquets with calla lilies and I'd love to see yours.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
