Calgary Brides!

I'm using a TA from here (Becky) and so far she's been great, maybe give her a try?  She's in Vancouver but she's so responsive that it doesn't really matter that she's not in Calgary!  Tried a couple TAs in Calgary and got fed up with the lack of communication too.

I talked to a couple of travel agents here in town. But all their quotes were more expensive than rates I found myself online. So our group is just booking separately and I'm working through the details with the coordinator myself. So far so good! Two more people booked this weekend!! I'm so happy people are coming! haha

Hope you ladies had a fun long weekend!

Sorry to hear so many girls are having problems with your TA's... I actually have a decent list of them and if you would like some names, numbers, email addresses, etc...  to see if you can find a good fit, please PM me or email me and I will try to send it your way.... They are from all over Canada and I don't really think it matters where your travel agent is. So long as they know what to do, that's the important thing...

cheers,

-dean

Well, personally, it wasn't that the TA wasn't knowledgable or helpful but just that the quotes were higher than those found on various websites. I wouldn't feel right committing my family members to a higher price when I KNOW that there's a cheaper one out there.

I found cheaper quotes online too but was told that sometimes travel companies release "teaser rates" and maybe a few people can book under that rate and then the price will jump back up. It's tough planning for a group cuz you don't want to risk waiting for the last minute deals in case there isn't enough room. I had my travel company agree to honor a one time price drop for my guests if they dropped their prices outside of 90 days from our departure. Good luck with everything!

Wow, girls!  Sooo much to catch up on and still trying to navigate around the new forum!  Gotta love vacations! I'm sorry I missed the last meeting in August, I know you two girls had fun though!

Ashley, thanks for the tip of asking for a one time price drop!  I had one quote with that but didnâ€t even to think to ask if it wasnâ€t listed.

Lindsey and Meghan, I got a BM dress altered at Connieâ€s before and she did a great job!(I too know others who have used her for alterations and they were happy!)  Great price and she was very personable!  Let me know how it goes Lindsey!

Sandy, The Ella dress you are eyeing is GORGEOUS!!! I love the May the fourth be with you!  Iâ€m totally opposite a Star Wars fan and I even think its pretty neat!

Here is an update as to where Iâ€m at with my planning….  Sent my STDâ€s out last month and Iâ€m now working on the Invites to get them out asap!  Iâ€m in the midst of getting quotes, Iâ€m surprised how different they all are!  Make sure you check around.  Last weekend I bought my DRESS!!  Iâ€m really excited about that and while we were there, we found a dress for my MOH!  Both were really great deals!

DRESS SHOPPING REVIEW: In Calgary I went to Blissful Bridal by Cactus Club on McLeod Trail, Golden Brides on 16 Ave(and their sister store on Centre street), Cameo and Cufflinks and Parsian in Dalhousie, Ever after Bridal on 16 Ave and two stores(I canâ€t recall the names) in the NE(near Barlow and 32Ave).

My experience at Golden Brides was interesting…here goes, the store itself has I would say over 1000 wedding dresses and tons of BM dresses(if you are having troubles shopping this might be the place to go, they have lots of dresses and lots of sizes-especially if youâ€re looking to buy off the rack) I had bought a BM dress from there a few years back and a friend of mine bought her wedding dress there last year and they seemed pretty good to deal with. I went on a Wednesday evening and I was the only one in the store, kind of nice.  They told me that every dress in the store was 40% off and the sale ends tomorrow.  Well, I didnâ€t love a dress so much that I thought I had to buy it that day!  So I went back on the weekend and she said tell me what dress you would like to know and Iâ€ll check.  So I asked if it was on a different percentage discount and she said yes, the price will change every day.  So she gave me a flat out discount of $300(no percentage) but I did the math and the 40% discount that I was given earlier in the week was $360 off.  They want you to take the dress home that day.  Words of advice if buying a dress at that store… There will always be a sale, donâ€t feel the need to rush into it!  Make sure you get a great discount and I think you could negotiate prices too!

Blissful Bridal and the 2 stores by Barlow didnâ€t really have much of what I was looking for and the service wasnâ€t great for me at either of those stores.  I did try on a few at Ever After Bridal that were nice and I was the only one in the store so they helped me out the whole time but the store was kinda small.

I went to The Parisan and Cameo & Cufflinks(=Awesome Customer Service!) a couple of times and when I went they were having a sample sale which I thought I would have to buy off the rack anyways because its getting too late to order a wedding dress and their prices were all 50-80%off all wedding dresses so it was great(usually I believe you have to book by appt and they said they don't usually have that many dresses).  I thought the staff in both stores was super helpful, friendly and they worked well together (they donâ€t work on commission so no pressure either)  This is where I bought my dress that I am ecstatic about!!!  I canâ€t wait for the wedding day, I just want to wear the dress now and every day until then!

I loved catching up to see what everyone has been up to especially the different stages we are all at and even those who are already married!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
