Thank youuuu! I will be sure to check them out!
Initially i was fine using Arrecife from the GBP - because I think their quality is good - but I think their packages are outrageous and they dont even include the reception!
So ya- back to the drawing board.
I have a photog picked for my TTD - i really want a local to do this - but as for the wedding day - its a matter of deciding to bring one from Calgary or pay for my TTD photog to book as a 'guest' at the resort. Ugh

Here's the link to Julie's blog: http://j2bailey.blogspot.com/

My pics are in the June 2010 archive if you want to check them out.

Another friend of mine, Carla, has done a number of destination weddings (they're her favorite!). Here's her website:http://www.shiphotography.com/index2.php

Just about all her pics are of my friends! She gives you ALL the photos on a CD so you can do whatever you like with them.

Hope that helps!

Hey Sunshine,

We had already booked an outside photographer from the Dominican Republic before we got our engagment photos, but I think had we not already given our deposit we would have used the photog who did our engagment photos.  When I chatted with him about it, it sounded like he would basically charge the cost of his trip and charge very little for the actual photography.  He gave us a disc with all of our best photos from our e-session and included a copy of all the photos in high res for printing as well as lower res for email, fb etc.  He is based out of Banff/Canmore but was cheaper than most Calgary photogs I found and did an awesome job.  He made my FI feel totally comfortable and my FI is a full blown camera dodger!  Haha, he absolutely hates getting his pic taken and hates ALL photos of himself - he had a great time at the photo session and loved almost all of the photos.

His name is Eric Daigle - www.ericdaigle.com - his email and contact info is on the site as well.  I can send you a couple of our e-pics if you want to get an idea of what he does.

Hey Sunshine!

We are also bringing our photographer/videographer to our wedding, albeit they are not from Calgary (we hired them from Los Angeles). Photography was hands-down the most important element for me, so when I began looking into who we were going to hire, geography was not really an issue - I just picked the team I liked the best (within the price range we were willing to spend, of course!). If you're interested, I'm using Floataway Studios (www.floatawaystudios.com).

If you are set on hiring someone out of Calgary, I would definitely recommend White Dress Photography. They did our engagement session, and the pictures turned out wonderfully! You can see them here: http://whitedressblog.com/2010/10/greg-natalies-e-session/

My resort is extremely restrictive with bringing an outside photographer in - either I have to use theirs or bring my own (aka they're a guest at my wedding)

I'm starting to considering bringing my own as I think part of the photography experience for your wedding day is the photographer getting to know you as a couple - so they can figure out what kind of shots to do.
Not only that - our engagement pictures didn't turn out very good - so if we bring our photog down from Calgary - we could probably incorporate some engagement shots when we arrive in Mexico
Also - found out the resort photog wants like $2800 for only 160 photos!! I feel thats a bit of a rip off!  I haven't met with any Calgary photographers yet - but I'm betting for that amount of money I will get a lot more than 160 photos!

I follow A LOT of blogs out of Southern California (Green Wedding Shoes is a daily read; I would DEFINITELY check it out if you haven't already - www.greenweddingshoes.com). Before I even got engaged last year, I came across photos of Mary's that were featured, and a video of Scott's. I knew instantly that they would be our photo/video team. Originally we were planning on getting married in Calgary, and were going to fly them here, but things worked out even better when we decided to get married in Cabo, since it's only a short flight away (and MUCH more economical than flying the Floataway team to Calgary!). To fly in someone from Calgary would have cost 2-3x more than flying someone in from California (as it's much closer, so flights are cheaper). Also, I've found that because the photography industry in California is so saturated, we were able to get a top notch team for much less money than had we hired someone from Calgary (I find the photographers here are very, very overpriced for the style we were going for - ie. Buffy Goodman, OrangeGirl, etc). We are so, SO excited to work with them. Their work is amazing, and we know we won't be disappointed!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
