Calgary Brides!

Hi Everyone,  I've been an observer on the site for a bit, and I must to say that this thread is not very easy to find, but I am glad that I have finally found it.

I am a Calgary bride getting married in Puerto Vallarta in May 2012. Still working on narrowing down a venue as we want to do something off resort, but I have hired a WC and I bought my dress this weekend!

Is anyone else on this thread getting married in Puerto Vallarta?

Also, wondering if anyone could recommend a travel agent?

Miss Emma,

Yah! another PV Bride! :)

I am getting married at Dreams Puerto Vallarta Feb 2012, Our coordinator is Dazzling Details, haven't started too much planning yet..more to come in the spring. I haven't really found a great travel agent yet either, I am wondering if is just cheaper to find deals online then going with group rates. I was told that rates should be out about 10 months before, so I am waiting another month and then going to compare prices. My fiance and I really want to fly West Jet because we have always been impressed with their service and prices and I know I won't be stressed out if I travel with West Jet.

Which resort are you thinking of going with? Who's you coordinator?

That's awesome that you found your dress, I am still looking. Going shopping again in March, so hopefully I will find "The One".

Good luck with everything, looking forward to sharing planning with you :)

Hi Star18,

Happy to see another Puerto Vallarta bride on here!

We've been looking at Dreams Villamagna, however the one travel agent I spoke to claimed it was going to be about $2,000/ person - which seemed bizarrely expensive for "off-season", especially when Expedia is saying about $1,100 a person for this May. I am also determined to use WestJet as I've had terrible experiences with Air Transat and SunWing in the past.

A friend of mine from Calgary works in PV as a event coordinator - her name is Blaire, she used to work for Playa Fiesta and now is with Plush Catering and Events, so she has offered to do all of the coordination pieces for us and I am hoping to make my budget work to hire Mishka for the design, I just absolutely love her work. For the actual wedding location right now we are torn between Terra Noble Spa, the Martoca Beach Garden or perhaps something in Sayulita if we can make it work.

I bought my dress this weekend at the Bridal Centre and despite hearing some terrible reviews from friends I was quite impressed. Lets just hope my dress arrives in one piece!

Have you been to Dreams in Puerto Vallarta before? or are you planning to do a site visit before next Feb? We've been considering this hotel as another option as well.

Hi all,

I see a few of you talking about WestJet flights! My FI and I are in the process of firing our travel agent and booking directly with westjet. If you call their group booking line they will set up a 'wedding discount code' for your guests to use when they book. It gives them 10% off any base fare flight up to 7 days before and after your wedding date. You can talk to them about it at 1-888-493-7853. They request a verbal confirmation that at least 15 passengers will book.

It's saved me so much stress, hopefully someone else can use it too!

Hey,

I know we have been getting rediculous quotes as well, which is why I am deciding on whether to use a travel agent or not at all. I have been reviewing prices for dreams PV for over a year now and I have a pretty good idea of what the prices should be (between $1500-$1700 per person for a deluxe room, in Feb since it is high season), So when I get quotes for over $2000, I have to wonder how accurate that is. I think because it is so far out they just give you any old number and then once all the companies come out with prices it forces them to become competitive and the prices drop. Atleast this is what I am hoping for.

That's awesome that you know people in the business, Dazzling details works with Plush sometimes, their work is amazing. It was a toss up between Dazzling Details and Mishka, but I had fallen in love with Dazzling Details before I had come across Mishka and I just think my mind was already set on them.

I am going to the Bridal Center in March, haven't been there yet but my sister got her dress there and loved it.

I haven't been to Puerto Vallarta before. I have been to the Mayan 4 times and we wanted something we knew but also a different location then we'd been to. I just did some research and the reviews speak wonders. I like the idea of smaller resorts better. I have been to both large and small resorts and I didn't like having to walk a mile to get from your room to the beach at the large resorts. I am hoping that I made the right decision as we won't be able to do a site visit.

We don't start planning until the spring time with DD, I can't wait to start!! So excited!! :)

Yes, $600 per person, direct flights to Vegas and back, 4 nights at the Encore AND we got a $150 resort-credit for book flight and hotel together. We could have gone with a cheaper hotel, but when the Encore/Wynn come up for $600, you take it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
