I'm not from Calgary (from Medicine Hat) but will be coming to Calgary to go dress shopping.  Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions of places to go to? I don't know any of the bridal stores in Calgary!  Thanks so much!

Hi JayKay

Congrats and enjoy dress shopping!!  I found it to be sooo much fun.  The stores that I liked in Calgary are Cameo & Cufflinks, thats where I bought my dress.  Like Boo said they have fantastic service.  http://www.cameoandcufflinks.com   If you go there pop by next door to Parisan, they have great dresses too.  I also really liked Mena's, it's a smaller store but great selection and service.  http://www.menasbridalboutique.com

Have fun :)

Thanks for the tips ladies! That is DEFINITELY something I will keep in mind once I'm at the alterations stage (likely not till June or so). My sister got her dress at a fancy-pants bridal store in Toronto (Pearl Bridal House) and her alterations cost $500 (this was to add cups, take in slightly and bustle). It sounds like many of you got much more extensive alterations done for a much better price (not using the alterations provided at the store).

On another note, I am jubilant that the hair/makeup artist that I wanted for my wedding is available, but not happy that she is charging an arm and a leg! $655 (including tax and tip) for trial hair/makeup, day of hair/makeup, and TTD hair/makeup. Definitely hadn't put that into the wedding budget!

I can't believe the amount of money they charge for hair!

How about your flowers?  Are they an arm an a leg?  Can you take them home with you for a memento?

I actually make silk flower bouquets that are basically crushable for your suitcase!  Prices are wonderful and you can take your bouquet home.  Check out my website at www.knottoworry.ca or my mini album on this website.

Best of luck to you!

Hi!

She will need extra material for the panel portion of the corset, and the ribbon, but she takes care of that.  My dress is very unusual material, but she said she would manage for the panel.  Granted, I haven't seen it yet!!

Eeek!

Good luck!

Just chiming in on Connie!  I took my dress to her a couple of weeks ago for alterations and can vouch that she is super fast and easy to work with.  I had the whole zipper cut out and a corset back put in, taken in at the hips, shorten hem a little, and bustle - and she quoted me $200 for the whole shebang.  I think that is pretty darn good!

She can do minor dress alterations within a few days, so you have nothing to worry about!

Question for you Pam - I want to get my zip-up changed to a corset back as well, but my dress is an odd color - its called pearl, so its kind of ivory.  Does she need any extra material to do the corset, or can she manage with what's already there?  Not sure if you know this, but thought I'd throw the question out just in case!

I bought my dress at Ethos and have seen some not great review on here. My experience was wonderful. I ended up losing about 4 dress sizes and my dress was too big. My consultant (Janice) ordered me a second smaller dress and had it shipped super fast (only 2-3 weeks) and they didn't charge me any extra. Janice also gave me a 10% discount. Pamphilia - I'm getting my dress altered in Red Deer so I don't have to drive back and forth for fitting. For hemming (3 layers), bustle, cups, and changing zip up to a corset it's $330. My next fitting is Jan 11th eek! I never even asked about the colour of the modest panel so I hope it turns out. I did take in a bunch of photos of corset backs that I liked and didn't like and that really helped.

Thanks Pam - good to know it wasn't an issue, I'm sure it'll turn out great!  I'd love to hear how it goes when you get your dress back!

I picked up my dress today from Connie and it is GREAT!  You would never know that the dress didn't start with a corset back - Connie did a great job.  I will be sure to post a picture when I can!

Wow Ashely, $330 for almost the same as what I had done?  I guess I got a really good deal!

lsmith - despite my unusual material, it was matched PERFECTLY (same material even!) for the modesty panel and even the ribbon portion.  I am sure she will match yours just fine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
