Calgary Brides!

Just wanted to give everyone a quick review of the Bridal Expo yesterday :) I had a really great time, I came home with a TON of leaflets, cards, bags, gift cards, magazines, etc. It's true that most of it wasn't applicable for destination brides, but it was still a fun experience! I think those events are great when you're first starting out planning, or if you weren't so heavily involved in a forum like this one. One highlight was a wedding planner who does destination weddings - she had an album of the best photographer in Punta Cana (in her company's opinion) - it was the photographer we've already booked!! Guess we made a good choice :) (HDC Photography, in case you're wondering) The fashion show was a blast too, it was fun to see all the dresses and lingerie, and the boys showing off  tuxes were hilarious! (they're dancers, lol)

Also, a quick update, because I did have a little rant on here a while back about the stress of needing 10 rooms booked to get our group rate...Well as of today we have 12 rooms booked!! So that's 22 guests, plus ourselves. That's probably about 2/3 of our total expected guests - what a relief! :)

Ha ha I remember those guys - one of the ladies in my dance class was a model at the previous show 6 months ago, it was very fun to watch!

Having guests book was amazing, so congrads! Definitely made it feel real for us, so now just sit back and enjoy!

Not to hijack things but we are leaving in 60 days!! My dear FH and I signed up for dance lessons so we were trying to nail down our first dance song, I am huge Bryan Adams fan, but we are leaning towards Shania Twain 'From this Moment' and by someone else 'Broken Road'? I think, anyhow, in my cheeky way I said we cant choose a song without dancing to it, so we were dancing while youtube was playing, well I started to cry! how funny, I am going to be a mess on the day of I can tell already! Anyhow I guess I just meant to say its funny how guests booking, or nailing down the song etc. can make it feel more real and really bring on those emotions.

Night ladies!

Thanks so much for the info, Sandy!  That helps a lot.  I'll be going to my first Bridal Show next weekend and now I'm all excited to go :)

Boo - super excited for you!  60 days is so close.  I think its really sweet that you got all emotional over the song while you two were dancing.  I think you've found your song :)

Not sure if any of you ladies would be interested, but the Groupon Calgary deal today is a $115 worth of photobook for $35 at Photobook Canada.  I bought one to use for our guestbook (photographer was going to charge us $250 for it, but a guestbook is so basic and easy to do).  Just thought I'd share if any of you are interested!  And if you have no idea what Groupon is, check out www.groupon.com.  Some really great deals there at big discounts, and its legit.  The deal is only available for purchase today.

Hey everyone,

Well Ethos called me Thursday to let me know my dress is in. I drove down to Calgary so excited to try it on - and it doesn't fit! It's too big. They said it would be possible to alter it, but they would see if they could order me a smaller size in time for the wedding. Turns out they can get one in by November 20th (wedding is in February). Hoping everything works out!

I wish the Sonias bridal would have doen that for me.  My dress is at least 2 sizes too big and now I need to severely alter it (which I am told can be done).  But, that would save on stress.

I'm so excited, I had to share... I bought a dress at the bridal show yesterday!!  Off the rack, so the price made me happy too and its sitting in my closet right now.  It's not a typical "beach" dress, but I dont even care... I'm so in love with it.  Just needs a few alterations :)

So giddy, I'm super excited for the wedding now :D

Hey Ladies,

If any of you are looking for a good deal on bridal party/family/friends gifts for the wedding - head over to Sol Optix on 17th Ave.

The owner will give you a really good deal (roughly 15% off) on most watches and sunglasses. And if he doesn't have what you are looking for he will order it too.

I went there and I told him I was posting this on BDW - so mention BDW to him and he will take good care of you!

The stores address is: 638B 17th Avenue SW (across from Western Canada High School)

Let me know if you have any questions, and the owners name is ALY.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
