Hi guys!

So this is pretty much my first post since I`ve signed up. I didn`t really have anything to contribute since my fiance and I had nothing planned except that we knew we wanted a destination wedding to cut down on the guest list. We come from huge Asian families and honestly, we`re not that close to them so I didn`t want a big wedding just out of obligation to others who probably didn`t care to be there. If that makes sense.

So right now we`re waiting for quotes to come back from Candace at Romanticplanets. Has anyone dealt with her before. She seems quite responsive (compared to the lady at Sears Travel!) but just wanted to make sure that her customer service was consistent throughout...

We got the original quote for Dreams Puerto Vallarta in May from the Sears lady but I`m hoping to get a quote that`s similar if not better from Romanticplanets because I like their customer service much better. Does $1589 taxes included sound reasonable for Dreams Puerto Vallarta on May 7th 2011.

Thanks guys! Can`t wait to really start contributing to this thread.

Mary

Okay so here are a couple pics of the dresses that my BM's wore. We got the flirty convertible style which is on sale for $95, so not quite the same ones that are on for $39.

One of the girls spent some time figuring out all the ways that you can wear this dress and I think she got up to 15 or something crazy like that! I've also got an online video fo rthe different ways to wrap it but that's in my work email so I can't get at it just now. The material of these dresses is really nice and all the girls are happy that they'll be able to wear them over again. They have about six colours to choose from right now but these change every once in a while.

We bought all of them online and mostly just guessed with the sizing and they worked out really well. Pretty much all my girls and I order from VS regularily enough anyways so if you're splitting the cost of shipping etc between a few girls then it doesn't add a heck of a lot (it just might seem like a lot if you're paying for the dresses and everything yourself!). It's also worth checking on ebay just in case you can find the right dress a little bit cheaper as that's what we did for one girl when the colours changed on us!

Hi M1984, I am currently using Romantic Planet for our booking. They have been great!!! I first starting with Laurie and now Richelle is looking after our group. I never have to wait to hear back from they and they have been soooo helpful.

Meghan I love your BM dresses!!! That is the color I'm leaning towards for my girls but I have left the decision up to them. Mostly I love love your dress!!! It is sooooo simular to the one I have picked out, where did you get it? Can't wait to see more of your pics, it looks like you had a beautiful wedding, congrats!!!

One of my friend of a friend works at Romantic Planet - Deanna - she has been great! We approached atleast 5 or 6 travel agents, and she is the only one that we used!

Thanks Linds... I've been ridiculously busy since we got back from the wedding so I haven't been able to post much of anything but I'll let you know when I get some more of my dress up. I bought it at Mena's Bridal on centre street just south of 16th ave in the NW. I don't think I'd have picked it out if I hadn't tried on a bunch of dresses around the city before going there since it's a smaller store - but it just had the right combination of things I wanted. The only addition I would have made (would have been easy but thought of it too late) is to have the little buttons sewn on the back down the zipper, but it may have just been too busy with the corset style back that it has. I did love my dress though and everyone else seemed to think it suited me as well which is nice!

Hi Mary,

I also used Romantic Planet. The agent I delt with is Tara Stallard (or Hartman)- she's divorced oh the irony! Anyways, Tara went on vacation for a month in December. Right in the middle of my bookings and Candace took over. I was seriously not happy with her. I ended up putting down deposits for a package that didn't work for half of my guests coming from Regina. I completely blame Candace 100% for the loss of $3500. I was heartbroken at the fact that Candace wasn't able to recognize that the package I picked ONLY worked for people leaving from Calgary.

In the end I ended up getting $700 back from Signature and switching my package all together. Luckily, Candace is not an agent though, only a secretary of some sorts. Tara was very appologetic about it but it really doesn't change the fact that I'm still out $2700! I stayed with Romantic Planet because I really do like Tara. She is very hardworking and loves her work. I've gotten over the whole Candace fiasco (well sort of!) but made it very clear, she is not to touch my file again!

I sound very bitter and like I'm trying to disuade you but really I'm not. I LOVE their service and their TAs (Laurie & Tara in particular) but have no use for Candace! I recommend you make an appointment with them. It makes you at ease with your decision and at least you'll get to meet a proper Travel Agent. Good Luck. I hope this helps and that I don't sound like a total bitter cow. It's just that Candace was the root to alot of my stress in January.

Good Luck. I am certain they can help you find a package at RP. That's what they do. Weddings!

Meghan- those pics are awesome. I really like the dress you picked out but none of the colors work for our wedding so I was thinking of getting the shorter dress. I'll have to have a think about it. Did you find that you swelled up any while in Mexico? I have this reoccuring nightmare that my dress won't do up on the day of the wedding! crybaby2.gif

It was reasonably humid while we were in MX but I didn't have problems with swelling up at all. My clothes and my rings both fit well the entire time but I know one of the guys we were with couldn't budge his ring from his finger the whole trip! Honestly I think most people usually only have swelling issues with extremities (fingers and toes) more than their entire bodies. Other than that one guy, I didn't hear any of our guests complaining at all so that makes 1 in 35 that had problems?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
