Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue

Recommended Posts

I think this is one of the funnest things about being a bride (ok maybe not the most fun but in the top 5)...getting to choose your old new blue and borrowed! Here is my list so far...

Old - My MOH who is my cousin suggested to my mom that i wear an necklace that was our great grandma's, which is over 100 years old. it's not what i pictured around my neck but i think it's perfect!

New - when i was a little girl my dad told me if i married at "dirt bag" he'd buy me pearls, but if i married a good guy, he'd buy me diamonds. i like to remind him of that....so whatever it is he buys me, will be my new....better be diamonds! hahah

Borrowed - I'm not sure yet I don't have that one pinned down yet

Blue - is my gold and blue strappy sandals.

Old = mother's wedding band (my father is deceased, so it was a special thing to me)

New = Dress, shoes, etc.

Borrowed = tennis bracelet

Blue = DIY bride panties, b/c we didn't do the garter toss, so I didn't feel the need to wear a garter.

Hope that helps; good luck!!

Here is what i had:

old: mother's wedding band (my wedding day was also my parent's 30th anniversary so the wedding band was 30 years old that day)

new: dress, headband, etc.

borrowed: my aunts (on my mother's side of the family) bracelet

blue: my aunt (on my father's side of the family) made me two little blue hair clips

I was really happy I had something from both my mother and my fathers side of the family.

It doesn't have to be something that you wear... my BF borrowed the cake cutting set that her parents used for their wedding. I thought it was a really nice touch!

Old: My mom's wishbone brooch, from 1948 (she wore it for good luck at her own wedding)

New: My garter

Borrowed: The handkerchief my oldest sister carried at her wedding fifteen years prior (it was embroidered with blue flowers as her "something blue")

Blue: An aquamarine bracelet given to me as a bridal gift by my other sister (aquamarine is my birthstone)

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
