Travelling With Children

Recommended Posts

MY Fh and I are travelling with about 10 kids under 10 to the Mayan Riviera in January. Two of them are ours and the rest are friends children or nephews etc. Does anyone have any good ideas on things we can do on the plane to make the time pass a little quicker. Kids games etc for a plane..picture search huh.gifhuh.gif?

well if there is tv your safe if not you can bring colouring books, there is travel board games you can pick up like monopoly, scrabble, battleship. i saw them online at toysrus. there was also someone on here that had found this online booklet with all sorts of stuff for kids to do. checkout the dollar store for activity books.

good luck.

A strategy that works well with our daughter is definitely what the above have said, and then we always buy a new toy or new DVD or new something that we can pull out when she is absolutely DONE and having a fit. This usually works like a charm and buys us some peace. She is only 2 though so it may not be as effective with older kids :-)

portable dvd players (I have a triple headphone jack that can plug into it or an ipod so more than one can listen). Ipods, nintendos and other electronic activities are good. Things I also always have for my kids (we do about 8 or so international flights a year):

snacks: Goldfish, gummy snacks, fun size packs of m&ms (when they were little, they knew they got those when they were sitting still in the seat with a seatbelt on waiting for take off) I'll also make cookies and biscotti and pack in an extra ziploc. The amount of times we have been delayed or food has not been available makes me very religious about snacks.

Ziploc bags: freezer gallon size. I pack a change of clothes for the kids in one (sometimes just a shirt, but if they are in the 2-5 year range always an extra pair or two of underwear and pants in case of accidents). Kids get airsick, spill things, have accidents, I put the dirty clothes in the ziploc, put the clean clothes on. I have also passed out about 6-7 ziploc bags to mom's dealing with spills/sick etc who don't want to throw the offending clothes in their travel bags. I love ziploc bags!

Travel size baby wipes...good for all stickiness, mess, markers, etc my kids are 6 & 9 and baby wipes still make the bag

cloth diaper or a flour sack dishcloth (or a small handtowel), once again you just never know when a mess can occur, and it's a small item but when needed can become very handy!

For our wedding we had two toddlers. We packed them each a back pack with new toys. Little dolls, coloring books, and snacks. BUT, we also packed a little something in the suitcase, so that on the way home they would have new toys again. For some reason kids get bored with toys they know. But if it's a new toy it'll take longer for them to get sick of it! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
