When to mail invitations? Before or after Holidays?

Recommended Posts

I need your opinions...My wedding is in April 23, 2010 and I just ordered my inviations and should be getting them before Thanksgiving. I have a real dilemma about WHEN to actually send them out. Part of me wants to send them out BEFORE the Christmas/New Year's holidays so that people can budget accordingly. Another part of me wants to send them out after all the holiday craze is over & done with so that the invitations don't get lost in the holiday shuffle but then I'm cutting it really close.

What has everyone else done? What do you think I should do - mail them out right after Thanksgiving, before christmas or just wait until January?

Lets see that is tricky. They say 6-8 weeks is etiquette. Did you send STD's so your guests know about your upcoming DW?

Our wedding is 1.23.2010 and we sent them out the 2nd week of october. We had our RSVP date as November 15th. Which still leaves 2 months really. We sent them a little early.. and I forget why. I would say send yours out the 2nd or 3rd week of January and that way the holidays are all over with. And people are focused on your invite. And then put an RSVP date for end of February ish/beginnning of March.

It depends on your situation. Have you sent out Save the Dates yet? If no, then you should probably send out the invites before Thanksgiving/early December. If you sent STd's and your guests already know about the wedding then send invites in January and with RSVP requests for 6-8 weeks later.

We sent out STD's one year in advance... travel details nine months prior and will send formal invites out 3-4 months before.

I'm in the same boat, too. I think I'll send them out before Christmas- but I am worried about them getting lost with all of the Christmas cards and everything else like that. I'm just worried that later will be cutting it a bit close because the spots we've reserved for our guests' trips expire at the end of January and then people will be on their own as far as booking their stay. It's a toughy, for sure.

My wedding's the day before yours, so I'm definitely in the same boat. We sent out STD's last year, so I think we'll be sending them out early January with a February/March RSVP date. Still on the fence on this one though, cause it just feels too close to the date. Keep us updated on what you decide!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
