Help! Which MOB dress?

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago, my mother bought two dresses. Dress #1 was meant to be for the beach wedding and dress #2 was meant for the formal AHR. Now, she wants to wear dress #2 for the beach wedding and buy another dress for the AHR because dress #1 is now "too informal".

I honestly think dress #2 for the beach is wayyyyyyy too formal, thick, and dark but my mom claims she won't be "mother of the bride-like" wearing dress #1. I'm horribly afraid she will stick out like a sore thumb among everyone else (esp. FMIL, this is her dress F23051.

Should I let her wear dress #2 or convince her to wear dress #1 for the beach like it was intended? What are your thoughts.

I think the first one is so pretty and flowy and would be perfect for a beach wedding. With that being said, I would just let my mom wear whatever she wanted to. At least thats how I felt with my mom and FMIL - I gave them no guidelines and said just to wear whatever they wanted and felt comfortable in, be it a ball gown or a cocktail dress.

Dress No. 2 looks like it just doesn't belong at the beach. Are you actually getting married on the beach? What time is your wedding, daytime or night time? The are both beautiful dresses, but No. 1 seems more appropriate. I think I would just give my opinion, if it were asked, and be done with it and let her pick what she wants

I think I agree with you that dress #2 might stand out a bit too much for the beach ceremony as it is quite formal. And dress #1 is so pretty! But perhaps instead of trying to convince her to just go with what she has (because I'd be worried that she'll get her heels ground in) then maybe see if she'll keep #2 for the AHR and get a new dress that is in the middle of #1 & #2 styles as a compromise. That way she won't feel too casual and you won't have to worry about her being too formal.

And I have to admit that I confessed a "bridezilla" request to my mom right off the bat about her dress. I asked to have Veto power. More importantly I just wanted her to show me the dresses she was looking at along the way and she's been awesome with it! You'll figure out something with her!!

Convince her for Dress #1 for sure!!! If you can get around it without upseting her, but I would not be happy if my mother was that formally dressed for a beach wedding either. I am pulling rank when I see my mother's dress, I dont like it I will ask her to get another one, having said that, I dont anticipate any issues with my mom. Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
