ROR Security question for photographers

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am bringing my friend, who is also a professional photographer to my wedding. This is her first destination trip and she is worried about the security level at the resort. She will need to bring her camera and a lot of equipments.

I'm wondering how other photographers as guest took care of their equipments/camera. How big is the safe? Will she be able to store her equipment there? If not, how did you handled the situation?

I sure hope my friend will not have to carry her stuff around and monitor them 24/7.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I carry my equipment with me at all times. That's definitely why photographing a destination wedding is NOT a vacation. I'd also recommend a room NOT on the ground floor. That way if she/he does leave items in their room, it's a little bit harder to get to.

I would also recommend not bringing a normal camera case. Bring cases that are inconspicuous, as to not draw attentio to them.

I photograph at Riu Ocho Rios quite often and have left my equipment locked up in the room at times, when photographing on the beach I secure it near me. Security is pretty tight there so I don't think she will have a problem...please tell her not too worry. If she has any questions about the resort she can also email me. It's a great place for photographing weddings. Have a great time and congratulations :)

When you lock up your camera, did you put it in the safe or just in your luggage? How big is the safe at the resort?

Thanks.
I usually put my laptop, camera, and lenses in my large luggage with a lock on it. The safe at the resort is not that big, your wallet, jewelry and cash can fit in it,....maybe if you break down the camera and just put the body in it will fit, but I shoot with so many different lenses and carry multiple lighting equipment so none of it would fit. Just tell her to bring a lock for her luggage and put it in there and lock it, again, we have never had a problem with this resort, nor have any of our associate photographers, you guys are going to have a fabulous time :)

When we were there, my husband who has a lot of expensive camera equipment just left it in the locked room. If she is unsure of it, I would suggest like the other ladies said and have her put it in a suitcase and use the lock, but the safe isn't big and no one bothered with out stuff. We did stay on the 5th floor though. He did used his camera bag that looks like a back pack and carried that a lot of places. Tell her not to worry, her stuff will be fine.

Thanks for the response guys. It's good to know that many had good experience in regards to security at this resort. I have heard bad stories about other resorts and how people can enter the balcony to steal your stuff. I hope we are going to be on the high floors so any of this can be avoided. I really appreciate the response. Cheers.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
