I'd start by picking the wedding package you like, booking the restaurant, and the entertainment you'd like, if any (i.e. steel drum band, hat field dancers, gazebo and dj, etc).  It's been my experience that the restaurant and entertainments gets booked up rather quickly so the sooner you put in your request the better chance you'll have of getting exactly what you want.

I have to agree!  Book your date, wedding time, location, package and entertainment first!

That being said, months later I keep getting the response that "we have requested this restaurant for you but it cannot be confirmed by the restaurant until 1 month prior to the event" or "we have noted your request for the gazebo and bartenders for your reception".  Is anyone else getting this?  I'm looking for a "yes, this is confirmed!"!

They keep telling me that to for our restraunt, but to me I don't really care where we eat, but it still is frustrating!

Agreed...as long as we have somewhere for our entire group to eat, I'm not super worried!  The only thing is that I already put the name of the italian restaurant on our invites and website, so it would look a little bit funny if it changed all of a sudden! I'm just hoping that its first come, first served as they said, and that they don't favour the larger groups as it would bring in more $!  We're only 18 people as it stands, so we're pretty tiny!

We got married there on May 7th.  We were told the same thing regarding the restaraunt...we wanted the Italian...the reason they cannot confirm it for you is the schedule varies and depending on the amount of people at the resort at the given time, they close down restaraunts.  We ended up eating at the Grill and it was great...They can tell you that it is confirmed and it still might end up changing...just relax...it all works out.

  • 1 month later...

Hello everyone,

I am trying to secure a wedding date for the Gran Bahia Jamaica.  I already emailed Chandlyn at weddingplannerbpjam@bahia-principe.com  requesting November 16th, 2012 as my wedding date.  I recieved a response from the assistant coordinator, Donnalee who said there are no dates available this year.  I replied back stating that I asked for 2012, and I am still waiting for a response.  (in actuality I mentioned it 2 times in the email and the date was even in the subject line).

Has anyone else had any trouble with the wedding coordinators there? I don't know who I should deal with? I have no clue how to contact them besides email, and no one is responding to me.  I wish people would just read things properly before responding.  I really want my wedding at the Gran Bahia and I have already negotiated pricing for my guests.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

PrincessKO

That happened to me when I went to book my wedding date.  It was December 2010 and I was trying to book my wedding date for January 2012, and they thought I meant January 2011.  It was frustrating until finally they under stood and I booked my date. You are planning really early so it should be no problem getting the date you want, so dont stress about that!

You can also call them.  I had to call them once and change our wedding date due to flight schedule changes.  The only thing is if you call them there is a chance you may not even get a hold of them if they are not in the office.  It sometimes takes a week or two to get replies back to emails, so just be patient.  They wedding coordinators are extremely busy at this resort.

Thanks for the insight JayKay.  It's very reassuring to hear someone else's experiences.  How is your planning experience to this point?

Right now, I am torn between the Gran Bahia and the RIU Ocho Rios.  My fiance and I both agree that pricing for our guests is what matters the most, and both resorts offer comparable prices.  I've been to the Gran Bahia back in 2007 when they first opened.  The only thing that I didn't like at that point was that because the hotel chain is Spanish, they had a lot of Spanish influence.  It was wierd to be in Jamaica and not have tradition Jerk Chicken while on the resort.  Can anyone tell me if the resort has adopted more Jamaican influences since it has opened? I heard from friends that the RIU does have more Jamaican culture at their resort. Just so you know, I've been for 4 other Gran Bahia hotels before, so I do really like the chain of resorts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
