Everyone seems to have their own idea on when would work. Of course, the summer works great for family cause kids are out of school, but it doesn't work for us and the weather! Thanksgiving works well for our family, but probably not for our friends who would want to be around their own family during that time. Xmas/NYE is out due to price rate hikes.

If it weren't for the kids we'd be able to plan it pretty much anytime we want but I think a lot of family would be disappointed and honestly so would I. I want flower girls and I love all the little kids in my family!

I think I'd better grab a glass of wine before I lose it.

My grandpa told me to stop stressing already because it's too early and then I'll really be a basket case by the wedding, lol.

And, of course, no one seems to understand how HARD it is to plan a DW! They think I have all the time in the world. Not necessarily true if I want to get them the best rates, etc. When should you have your date set anyways??

I know, I know - plan it for yourself and not for them. But our families are pretty cool about this assuming it fits their schedules and we REALLY want them there! This is going to be our first and ONLY wedding!

Anyways, I know you girls understand. Thanks for letting me vent. Off to drink a bottle of wine now...

We had 24 people attend our wedding in Las Caletas, Mexico on May 24th, 2009!

We all stayed at The Marriott in P.V., and Honeymooned at The Royal Plantation in Ochos Rios, Jamaica!

What about finding out when spring break for the kids are? I know Cancun is a huge party zone for spring break, but what about playa, tulum, RM? If they aren't as crazy, maybe that could be an option?

Or, some schools I think have a fall break now that they lengthened the school year from August - June...

I think you need to plan it around your schedule or you will make yourself insane trying to please everyone!!! We went through a little bit of this and our issue was we only had 2 kids to worry about an one was graduating high school next june (when we originally wanted to have it) we couldn't have him miss his graduation!

However, as long as it's in the middle of the school year and based around a weekend, i would think that most of your family since it is your wedding, wouldn't mind pulling the kids out of school for a couple days. If they just plan on staying like 3 or 4 nights just enough time for the wedding, and the wedding is on a saturday, then they can take the kids out of school for a thurs, fri and monday and there shouldn't be a huge issue.

This of course is coming from someone who doesn't have kids! But I remember when I was in school and we had to miss sometimes and if it was too long, they would give us our work ahead of time...Just an idea

Most importantly focus on you, everyone else will figure it out and find a way to get there!!! Have you talked to them about the kids school? If you haven't, and you are just assuming this because you are nice and want to cater to everyone...I would suggest to ask first so you don't stress out about something that wouldn't be an issue anyway. :)

        Good luck!!!

Maria, thanks for the suggestions. As for Spring Break, I believe it's very expensive as well. Not to mention, the kids in Boston aren't going to have the same break as the kids in Dallas. Same thing with the fall break I bet. Good suggestions tho, keep 'em coming.

Great advice Michelle!!!! Duuhhh, I hadn't even thought about weekends! OOOOH, and what about holiday weekends!!! You rock!

And you're right - I hadn't even talked to the kids parents. I did just send an email to my aunt tho right before I posted this to get her opinion on it all since she has 3 kiddos.

no matter what date you choose someone will have an issue with it. we choose november for basically the same reasons you outlined, and 90% of the fam thinks its a darn good date

You live in Texas! The weather will be a tad cooler in Mexico.

We are getting married in late July....I live in South Texas though, so its a little hotter here in Dallas, but still! We will only be outside for a little while for the ceremony then pictures. If you want summer, do summer!

The date and location are the hardest choices to make - you can do it!!

We picked December 8. My favorite time to go to beach spots is between Thanksgiving and Xmas. Sometimes you bump into Hanukkah or Ramadan (like last year) but most of our Jewish family members are reform and our Muslim friends get over it. Anyway, during these few weeks places are pretty empty. When we went to Cabo the week before and through Xmas, the Sheraton didn't get even close to full the whole time. We did notice a lot more people arriving on Xmas eve. I think families that travel during that time usually leave around 12/22 - 12/24.
The other thing is that the weather is great - not so freaky hot. Most kids who are in grade school and stuff don't have finals or anything, so this time of year is about parades and parties - they aren't missing much.
My bro is going to be in his first year of college with finals starting on 12/10. my parents realize there is no better time for all of us and are cool with him coming. Hopefully he can rearrange. That is really the only timing problem we have had with this date.

Hope this helps!! Whatever you pick it won't be perfect for everyone - but no date ever is.

Jaime as a mom I can tell you that it is not such a huge deal to pull kids out of school for a few days, or even a week. I pulled my guys for a week to go to Mexico with them with no effect to them at all. The only thing to be aware of is if they are older and have exams, then of course you should work around that, other then that I think you should pick the date you want.

Jaime look what happen to me when I tried to please everyone it bit me, HARD, in the ass, keep that in mind!

                    hey jaimelynne,

i was just thinking tonight...what about a long weekend like "veteran's day"? (nov. 11)..because then you get a 3 day weekend so they would only really need to take the kids out of school for 1 day.

and you have a great date 11/11
