Help- Shipment held in Cancun customs

Hi Brides....

 

I was wondering if anyone has expereinced the same problem: I shipped all of my wedding OOT bag contents and favors via Fed Ex to Riveira Maya Mexico for my wedding that is scheduled for next week. The box is held in customs because of travel size tequila bottles that I thought met the requirements. I was wrong..... I am being told by Fed Ex that the only way to clear the package is to hire a customs broker does anyone know how I hire one (english speaking)? I am not having much luck on the internet and the one company I contacted yesterday (GAP) has not returned my call. I wish there was a way to remove the bottles so the rest of the contents could clear- this is everything I prepared for the wedding...everything! I am so upset. Any advice would help- thanks so much! If anything, maybe my experience will be a lesson to everyone- aggghhhh.

OMG, I can't help you with any information because I have no idea, but I hope it all works out for you and that you find someone to get everything cleared, you don't need this stress at all! Keep us posted on the details )

Did you have a TA? If so, they might be able to assist you. Otherwise, I would call the resort that you are getting married at and see if they can help you out.

Thanks for the advice...I contacted the TA and resort and neither can assist me.

I just read this:

If the value of the goods surpasses one thousand dollars (per family member) after subtracting the US$300 exemption, or if any of the goods is subject to non-tariff regulations or restrictions, you must hire the services of a customs broker. Private brokerage services are always available at the airport

 

Perhaps the airport can help you, have you called Cancun airport?

This is good info. Where did you find it? Is there a site or forum where I can educated about what I can and can't bring with me?

Okay, I've heard of this before. I think you have to travel down there, meet up with them and give them some money under the table. I'm guessing a $100 bill would work.

 

I think there was a bride on here that did the same thing. Unfortunately, Mexico Customs is much more different then American Customs. :-( Good Luck!
