Wow....thanks for the responses!!! I can see this forum is going to be very helpful!

I have been to Anguilla (for a day trip) and it is absolutely amazing. I think that far of a flight and then the ferry ride over would be a bit much for our guests. We should go for our honeymoon though!

In Tulum, I am looking at all the hotels/cabanas including cesiak, la luna, ana y jose, zamas, and la zebra. If you insight into any of them let me know. I am a little concerned about power if we are doing lots of dancing.

Cesiak is a great location for a sunset the reception. They have about the only view of the sunset in the area. I definitely wouldn't suggest trying to have your guests stay in the tents though, and the ceremony location is rather iffy. The beach there is gorgeous with a sand cliff. The trees are rather wind abused and not very pretty.

Ana y Jose's is about half-way along the beach/hotel row. So I wouldn't say that you have privacy, but it all depends on your season and time of day. It's fairly empty any where in Tulum though from May until November. I get frustrated with Ana y Jose's because of what I call "forced spending". You are required to use their vendors or pay a vendor fee. If you are going to stay at their hotel they require you to book the whole hotel for a week. That type of business doesn't sit well with me, but if it works for you, they have a lot of experience and things run smoothly.

Zamas has a great location with one of the larger beaches, interesting rock features, a dance floor, cute rooms and great food. Their service is slow and spotty. You will want to bring someone in that you can trust to run the show for you. They can't house 50 people but it is along a great row of hotels and you could have people stay in the surrounding hotels and it would be the same as everyone staying in a larger hotel. It may be a few minutes walk to everyones room but everyone will have a room practically on the beach.

La Zebra doesn't like to host weddings. Their restaurant does great business and they don't want to shut that down. However, their sister property El Pez is a great option. The two hotels are not close together and you would need to have transportation if they were staying at La Zebra. You could have people stay closer to El Pez by having them stay at the Maya Spa.

Hi and welcome to the boards! Congratulations on your engagement!

I agree with the previous posters - I'm going to have to recommend Akumal as well. It sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Gorgeous beach, private setting, just stunning. I mean... really. gorgeous. beach. The only thing I'm not sure about is where the guests will stay. One thought is they could stay at a nearby resort and you can just have the ceremony in Akumal. There are a bunch of cute restaurants in Akumal and the Half Moon Bay area (we loved la Buena Vida) that could host a reception for 50 with dancing on the beach.

Happy planning and good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
