For all you DIYers. Can you tell me where I can find this style of invitation? I am thinking starting to gather my things so when it happens I can send out the STDs.

1. Do I send out the STD or do I send out the invitations really early with all of the informations.

Do the people RSVP to STD or invitations.

Help I feel I need to do something.

I combined the invitations and stds, and asked for an rsvp to the std. I don't think it is necesary to send an invite out after they rsvp. You are going to need to know a head count way before the wedding, so that is why you would want them to rsvp to the std. I do plan on sending more information closer to the date, but only to the people going! I hope this helps!

I'm not sure what style you are talking about. Is there supposed to be a picture?

1. I sent out STD's first. I sent mine out 10 months in advance. I really wanted to send them out 12 months in advance, but we had some stuff going on at the time and I wasn't able to.

I sent newsletters with the STD's. The newsletters basically had info about St. Thomas, where the wedding and reception was going to be, info about the trip, passsport info, suggested hotels, how to get around the island, etc. etc.

I used magnets from vistaprint as the actual STD's.

I got married in May. Sent out invitations at the end of January with a RSVP deadline of March 23 (2 months before the wedding). This way I could get a final headcount and plan favors, transportation and stuff without a last minute rush. I also sent the invites 3 months before the wedding date to remind people who hadn't already booked to get a move on it!

I made RSVP postcards on vistaprint.

2. I've seen some girls gather a tentative RSVP from the STD's, but that's just so they could have an idea of how many people might be able to come. I didn't do this. I just had people RSVP to the invites (which is the traditional way) because all I cared about was knowing FOR SURE who would come. I thought it would be unfair to have be RSVP for sure to the STD's because who really definitely knows ten months in advance if they will absolutely be able to come. And usually you don't need a headcount that far in advance anyway.

i sent out magnet STDs about 6 mos ahead of time and asked people to RSVP on our website so i could get a general idea. most people didn't RSVP though! on those STDs it also said "formal invite to follow" or something.

then i sent out invitations w/traditional RSVP cards about 8 weeks before the date. most people had already booked by then - but i also asked for their arrival date and wehre they were staying, and if they were attending the welcome dinner.

So if I send the invitations with a STD magnet asking them to RSVP say 9 months in advance I can just do the reminder letters.

Also can you tell me where I can find this envelope

what envelopes are you referring to? I bought envelops at Staples that fit my magnet perfectly, and that's what i mailed those out in. i got lucky and found some that fit perfectly.

then i bought envelopes for my invites at a paper store in Chicago - can't remember the name! Paper Source maybe. i actually bought the envelopes first, before i made my invites so i knew they'd fit.

I can not get the picture to upload. I really want to know is do people rsvp to the save the date and teh invitation? If they rsvp to the save the date what is the purpose of the inviation besides wasting money. If yous just do the invitations then how far in advance. I just want to give my family appropriate time to get the money for the wedding and not have to have their lites turned offf to go,

when i had people RSVP to the STD it was so we could get a general idea of who is going - since you need to do so much in advance (OOT bags, gifts, etc.) i wanted to have a general idea. they just had to click "yes" on our website.

then the formal invite was just more for formality - you really don't HAVE to do both. though most people didn't really RSVP to our STD anyway - so I did need these. i needed an exact count of who was coming.

as for when you need to send these out, i think it's probably different for every group. Paul proposed to me less than a year ago, and we're already married - i didn't want a long engagement. we sent our STDs out 6 mos ahead of time, and that was plenty of time for our group. for some, they've said they needed a year or more to give their group time to plan.

I don't think I'd ask people to RSVP 9 months in advance. A lot can happen in 9 months.

Perhaps you could like your wedding website to the STD. have an RSVP section on there. That should get SOME RSVPs ahead of time.

And then get the formal RSVP about 2-3 months before the wedding.

Yeah, I wouldn't ask people to RSVp 9 months in advance. So much can change. That's why I wouldn't send the RSVP with the invite.

I used the STD as a way to tell people what date the wedding was, where it is, and to give them time to save up money.

Then I used the invitation to formally invite them and the RSVp was to tell me for sure if they were able to come.

For my group, this worked best because people could save money, but didn't have to fully commit themselves to coming far in advance if they didn't know if they would have enough money.

You really don't need that much time to put OOT bags together and order favors. Especially if your guest list is fairly small. So it's not totally neccessary to get numbers for that stuff super far in advance. The only way I would have had anyone RSVP to the STD was if I needed a tentative head count far in advance for the reception. Otherwise, I think it's too much to deal with. I personally wouldn't want to commit, or even tentatively RSVP to an event more than three months in advance, because I'd feel obligated to stick to it.

Besides, RSVP's are super annoying! Ugh, people need to learn how to return them!

Do whatever works best for you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
