What Happened the Year You were Born??

Wow... I googled the year I was born and these are a few items of note (in no particular order)

  • The Sahara Desert experiences snow for 30 minutes
  • Sony introduces the Sony Walkman costing $200.00 (which was a lot apparently)
  • The general knowledge quiz game Trivial Pursuit is launched & post-it notes are invented
  • For the first time in history in 1979 a woman Margaret Thatcher is elected Prime minister in the UK
  • In Pennsylvania, a pump in the reactor cooling system fails at Three Mile Island, resulting in the evaporation of some contaminated water causing a nuclear meltdown
  • Pope John Paul II travels to the United States, the first time a pope has set foot on American soil.

Hmmmmm, this is fun!

 

1976:

-U2 formed! due to a post it note placed on the notice board of a Dublin School by the drummer!

-Jimmy Carter is nominated for US president, but I'm Canadian....

-Toronto Blue Jays are created! that's Canadian ;o)

-Apple Computer is formed!

-IBM introduces the first Laser Printer: IBM 3800, cool

-The first megamouth shark is discovered off Oahu in Hawaii, crazy

-The chimes of Big Ben stopped when part of the chiming mechanism disintegrated through metal fatigue.

And in the spirit of Halloween:

-The Lutz Family Flees 112 Ocean Avenue 28 Days after Moving in, Amityville Horror

-September 13 - I was born!! lol

It was the last year off high school for me.... Being from Newfoundland high school education ended at grade 11 can you believe that!!!!! They now have grade 12....
