Our WC suggests we have the cake & toasts immediately following the ceremony on the beach, then doing pictures then reception.

This seems a little odd. The only positive I see would be we don't have to eat up time during our 3 hour reception for these activities.

If we do this, then I think we would need to change our wedding time to 3:30 vs 4 because I am concerned we would run out of time for pictures (November wedding). And do we want to eat cake right before pictures??

Could anyone offer advice/suggestions on this?! I appreciate your help!!

When is your wedding? Mine's at the Royal in November too. My WC said the same thing. I figured we'll probably work that out when we get to Mexico since the cake and toast can't take more than 15 minutes? We're doing a cocktail hour right after the ceremony so maybe we'll do it then?

Our wedding is Nov 22. We decided to just do the champagne toast and cake after the ceremony - no cocktail hour. We figure that the guests could go grab a drink or run back to the room after pics and just meet up at the reception.

That seems like a strange time line for the events. Did the WC give you a reason why it should be done that way?

I like your idea on having everyone go grab a drink at the bar while you do pictures before the reception. Do you know what the cost is of adding a cocktail hour to the Eternal Romance package?

I haven't booked the Gran Caribe for our December 2010 wedding, but I've contacted them and am sure this is THE resort for us! These forums were a HUGE help! I've been looking for months at resorts but feel confident that the Gran Caribe/Royal will be perfect.

The cocktail hour for the Classic is $10 per person, not sure if it would be more for the Eternity package. I just can't see spending another $400 when drinks are free :)

The WC didn't say we "had" to do the champagne toast & cake that way, but she said that is normally how it is done (if no cocktail hour).

At first it seemed a little strange to me, but now the more I think of it, I am beginning to like the idea more.

First, it will allow for daylight pictures of the cake cutting. Second, dessert is included with our dinner, so few people will be hungry for cake after a full dinner. If we cut the cake after the ceremony, people will probably be ready for a little snack. Third, since the private reception is only 3 hours, this is one less activity we need to do during our reception and will allow for more dancing, chilling, etc. And I guess 4th, we only have our photographer for 5 hours so cutting the cake after the ceremony will ensure our photographer is still available to capture the moment.

That's so true! I hadn't even thought about the photograph potential! Thanks!

I am getting married at the Royal in Cancun on Nov 27th, 2010. I have had trouble with communication...has anyone else experienced that (first I was speaking...well, emailing with Suzanna and then I was switched to Leila)? Neither seem to really answer my questions or confirm my reservations (although I have already paid the deposit). Please let me know who ya'll have been coordinating with and how the communication is! Thank you!

Also- is everyone booking through the hotel or through outside vendors?

I am getting married at The Royal. Before I booked the wedding my WC, Aja, would respond quickly. Now that I have booked the wedding-she has not reply as fast as before. Interesting. Good Luck to ya!

Ive heard from a lot of the ladies here that they are having the same issues with communication. We are getting married at the Gran Caribe and staying at the Royal and quite frankly we have not really had a major issue with communication what so ever. Before we booked our wedding we were in constant communication thru email with Kimberly and we did book in Nov 2009 we were still communicating constantly. We now have a new WC, Julie which is awesome. My FI (hes the one doing most of the calling and emailing) emails her about 5-8 times every day, with all the questions we have and all the changes I want to make and she is very great at responding to every single question. I think the most weve had to wait is probably 8 hours for a reply.

We're booking the rooms though our regular travel agent rather than through the wedding coordinators/hotel. With the amount of complaints about lack of communication and confusion, I thought we'd be better off not doing it with them.

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
