Getting Married @ The Royal, Cancun

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info Stevensfiance! I'm leaving for my site inspection in 5 days! I think I am leaning towards having my reception on the terrace as well. I really wanted a beach reception at first, but the whole sand on my feet all night thing is starting to worry me. Not a fan of sandy feet, lol. I was concerned about that green "turf" on the terrace as well. But the reception would be starting around sunset, so hopefully the green stuff will go unnoticed because of the beautiful sunset. So exciting! I'm somewhat worried about the temperature too because my date is 8/14, so I'm stressing that it's still going to be super hot/humid in the evening. If anyone has other questions they would like me to ask while I'm there just let me know. Happy planning!

I hear you on the beach issue, I really wanted it on the beach, but I dont want my father being uncomfortable. The way my fiance and I looked at the beach situation, is everyones coming out to mexico for a DW, it should be on the beach, but with our situation we had to forfeit that idea. I can tell you this though, cancuns sand isnt that grainy/rough its a nice soft texture and I have to say when we were there last year, we spent almost every night walking on the beach and I rarely had to do much cleaning off of sand, the only downside of having the beach reception for the royal in Cancun, I would have to say would be the size of the beach, if youre expecting a large party you may have issues, the beach was closed when we were there 2 weeks ago, there was no beach, govt ordered for it to be reconstructed, so when you go you should have plenty of beach, but in May last year again the beach was small & from what I understand that happens every year regardless of hurricanes hitting. The beach just washes away, and there constantly replacing sand. Theres also a 2nd terrace, that completely faces the ocean, with no green felt. Only downside to this, is there are rooms w/ balconies so you may have some on lookers, I personally liked that space better.

But the Gazebo on the Gran Caribe side, is really private, on lookers can still see, but you wont find anyone wondering over there, its kind of sectioned off.

Thanks very much for that...when you say gazebo on the gran caribe side, is the gazebo still in the royal section of beach but nearest the gran side?? When looking at the real resorts wedding site, only allows you to book one gazebo called oceanfront gazebo.

Also, we are planning a May 2011 wedding, what time would you recommend the ceremony for as I dont want the sun to have set.

Thanks again for all your help

There are two gazebos, the site is pretty screwed up and I believe most of the pictures on there are from the royal in PDC. Your guest, if you choose to the gazebo on the gran side, can walk right there, from the front of hotel or the back by the pool, I would say it is technically on the Gran side, because you need to walk through a gate to get there and you need you room key to open the gate, granted I would assume during a wedding they would leave it open. From what I remember in May, I believe the sun started to set 5 30/6ish but you can actually search that on the internet, dont go by my word as I was pretty tipsy everyday out by the pool, I do know for sure the sun sets earlier on the right hand side of the hotel(looking towards ocean). Our ceremony is 4pm and thats for a June wedding, we wanted to cocktail hour/reception more with the sunset

Just got back from my site visit! Everything was great! I was worried about the beach being closed while I was down there, but it was open...and HUGE! They apparently had just finished it a few days before my trip. It is larger than it was before the hurricane, and now I'm worried that it's too big. (I'm gonna try to figure out how to post pics). The food tasting was awesome, the lamb chops were fantastic and so was the spinach souffle. I was thinking of doing my reception on the terrace at the Gran (the one that looks like a golf course because of the green "turf") but wasn't thrilled with the bathroom situation, or with how large the space was. We were told that for events up there they sometimes use the rooms that are facing the terrace for bathroom purposes, but they could not guarantee they would be open, even if we had our guests request to stay in those rooms to make sure they would be available. So, now I'm back to having a beach reception. They Royal has gorgeous bathrooms on the beach. So that was my selling point. So I'm back now to doing ceremony in the gazebo, reception on the beach. I will try to upload pics ASAP of the beach for everyone.

I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting married at the Royal, too. If all goes well, we plan on getting married on 01/08/2011. I've contacted the website several times to book the date and ask questions, but still haven't received any replies. Anyone know how long it takes for these things? Also, does anyone know how customizable the wedding is? I am wondering if I will be able to arrange to choose flowers for my bouquets and centerpieces that are not on the website and other decorations like colored chair sashes etc.. If anyone has any info. or advice let me know, thanks.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
