They Just Don't Get It

I don't know if it is me, but I am trying to explain the concept of a destination wedding to my family. Something simple yet elegant. That is what I am going for. However, it is turning into so much more. I now have 5 bridesmaids, and they want me to add junior bridesmaids, flower girl, and a ring bearer. HEEEELLLLOOOOOO!!!!!! That defeats the purpose of the simple yet elegant....lol It is my day and I am trying to get the family including the FI to understand, but I am not being heard right now. ARRRGGHHHH!!!! I apologize if this was commented on before, or if there is another thread, But I just had to speak my mind for a minute.

Absolutely stand your ground - but try not to get upset. Just let them all know that they have had their special day and now, this time, it's your special day.

I wish I could have had more people/attendants but this isn't our first marriage. There is just 11 of us. I'm divorced and my FI is a widower, however, this is the first "real" wedding that I've had, so we're making it as special as we can. One of my daughters is my MOH and his son is his BM, however, I have another daughter that is pregnant and her doc told her no way she could travel at that time (we thought we were planning it early enough for her to attend). My FI's daughter won't come - she thinks it would be "weird" to see her father get married. I don't think it's anything personal towards me, she just doesn't want her father to be with anyone (she's 28, married with a 4 year old). Just had to vent, myself. Sorry it's on your post. Good luck - and keep your chin up.

I agree with everyone..you have to put your foot down from the get go. I think it's helpful to show family & friends examples of other DW's through pictures. It shows them that many people do this and gives them an idea of how laid back and simple you'd like your wedding. I found that some people had just never heard of the idea or knew anyone that had their wedding in another country or across the US. Good luck..I'm sure it'll all work out and eventually everyone will get on board!

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement. I know that you all know that you just get those days where everything just seems like there is sooooooooo much to deal with. I am so happy that I found this place because now I know that I am not in it alone. We're family.....lol

Hugs for everyone.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
