ROR Past Brides

I have the wedding date booked and the time of the wedding, but that is it and we are getting married April 10th. How do I book the reception and if less people end up coming than we are inviting I think I might want to do a private reception by the pool. Am I allowed to change it?

Hi,

I had a group of 21 people and I rented the Sea Grape after our dinner at the Mammee Bay. We had originally booked the Sea Grape from 9:00pm-11:00pm but I paid the DJ for an extra hour to stay until 12:00am. The bartender had to leave at 11:00pm to go to the Disco but he left us 4 bottles of wine and a HUGE jug of beer. We did our speeches, cake cutting, our first dance, mother/son dance, father/daughter dance from 9:00pm-10:00pm and then the DJ played from 10:00pm-12:00am. The reception was amazing, it was definitely one of my favorite parts of the day. The Sea Grape was set up so beautifully and it was so romantic to have our first dance in the sand under the stars and a full moon. It was well worth the $$$ ($10pp for the open bar and $150 per hour for the DJ) and I wouldn’t change a thing. Let me know if you have any questions!

We didn't book anything for after the dinner at Mammee Bay. We got married at 6:30pm and because we had our photographer we cut the cake, did the toasts, and did our first dance right there in the Mammee Bay restaurant while we waited on the food t come. it worked out perfect because we were able to get pics of all the high lights before the photographer had to leave. Then when we were finishing dinner the beach party was starting. It was awesome. They had great music and if my guests wanted to come the could and if they didn't that was fine too. I danced the night away with my husband and had a blast. Then the entertainment did fire dancing and they had a bonfire. I had an awesome reception for free. It was great!!! I wouldn't change any of it. The disco was too dark and smelled, so I guess it will all just depend on what you want. To us everything so so scheduled that it was nice after dinner to let our guests d whatever they wanted. I hope this helps you.

Hey everyone,

thanks for all your input!

Im still debating on whether or not we should have the reception. I almost like the idea of not having to get up and go or doing anything planned after the meal....like I kind of just want to sit there...and enjoy it....and not worry about anything else that evening...but in the same breath, it owuld be nice to keep our group together for a little longer..........ugh.

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and thanks to those who shared their experience.

I've been learning towards having a beach reception but didn't realize the dinner went so long. At least now that I know I can let me guests know what to expect. It's still really important for me to have the first dance and the father/daughter dance so I think I'll proceed with the reception idea after the dinner.

Just a quick question though, does anyone know if the $15pp for Seagrape is $15pp/per hour or just $15pp? Thanks!!

Karen, thanks for the post. I am leaning towards seagrape as well. We just love being outdoors so i think this will suit us. Any extra tips/suggestions for this would be appreciated. The reception party is the only thing I'm worried about I dont know why? lol. The seagrape sounds cool did you have a bonfire as well?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
