Reservations were required but I think you can do it the day of as long as you do it prior to 3pm. We did 2 sit down dinners with our group of 40 at the grill (by the pool) for lobster dinner and we had no problem making the reservation any of the two nights! They gave us no hassle about it being such a large group and the second time they even set up a huge long table in advance.

Were reservations required at the sit-down restaurants?  Not needing reservations was high on our list when we picked resorts and when we went on our site visit last May we didn't need them.  BUT...I just read a complaint about this on Trip Advisor and I noticed that reservations are mentioned for some of the restaurants on the resort's website now!!!!   This makes me kind of nervous because I think having to make reservations takes some of the relaxation and spontaneity out of a vacation.

Thanks to anyone who can provide any info!

Hello!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We just got back last night from our wedding and honeymoon!! We want to go back already! Everything was absolutely perfect! I could not be happier with chosing the Tres Rios as our wedding venue. Luis and Allibe are both helpful and I love the flexibility of the resort. We had a Catholic Ceremony in Xcaret Chapel and then our  reception was at the Tres Rios in the round outdoor terrace. We had 53 guests travel with us:) Our welcome party was at the beach (between the beach and the river) and it was amazing! More than I could have asked for! We really think it made a huge difference to use our outside wedding coordinator Lissette Velez. She was AMAAAZIIIING! I can not even tell you girls how much she helped us and how BEAUTIFUL and smoothly evereything was on both nights. She coordinated everything and it all went so smoothly. She really made us feel so at ease and we did not stress out because she was so hands on and taking care of so many things that whole week. I could not be happier!

Our vendors:

DJ Mannia - AMAZING!!! WE got him because Lissette our coordinator recommended them and I could not give him enough great reviews. He kept the party going and announced the whole wedding party when we came in. We got ambience music for the welcome party (which consists of a sound system and also a staff member from Mannia switching up the music). I loved loved the music - it was a lot of songs that we knew with a lot of beachy type of twists. AMAZING! I had never heard it but it really set the mood. My husband and I loved each song that was redone. We had no idea what this would be like and were pleasantly surprised. THe night of the wedding we had the full DJ package and Carlos was our DJ. He was great! We loved him.

Hair & Make up - Sara Tamargo: AMAZING!! She was so pleasant to work with. I loved my make up and it lasted all day and night even through all the sweating and happy tears!

If I can advise anything is to use Lissette Velez because she really helped more than words can say and I can't even imagine how things would have gone with out her. Unfortunately - she will be leaving her company to work with Dreams Riviera Cancun but she was so pleasant to work with and she worked with our prices.

I will post a lengthier review with more detail but feel free to ask me any questions.

Also - we travelled with 53 guests and everyone had a great time. We had most of our guests raving about the resort and how much of a great time they had in Mexico. Unfortunately, there were 3 couples that had a problem with their room. I haven't dug deeper but  basically one couple left early because of their issue with the resort. Make sure you let your guests know that not all rooms are ocean view with a king size bed and jaccuzzi. These 3 cases wanted all 3 of those items but apparently the hotel doesn't have king size beds in all the rooms. I think you really can't please everyone but it did make us upset to hear they had a bad time due to this. Again - it's hard to please everyone when travelling with a large group. But like I said everyone else aside from that raved and was so happy with the resort.

Even with that we wouldn't pick a different resort because we loved it so much and wouldn't even be able to think of a better place for our wedding and large group.

You girls will have a great wedding!! Let me know if you have any questions!

I got a lot of help from the girls on this forum especially Avi - thank you!

Congratulations to Mrs.SB2, I'm so happy to hear that you had such an incredible wedding experience. I'm getting married at H3R in April and can't believe that it's just around the corner. We're going down to Mexico in December to meet with the vendors and plan the wedding and I cannot wait!

Does anyone have names for florists?  I'd like to do some research in advance but I'm having a difficult time finding anyone.  Also, the hotel is recommending that we use a DJ from AVI SPL.  Has anyone worked with them? Their wesbite is a little strange, they look like they do corporate events as opposed to weddings.  We'd also like some mariachi throughout the weekend, does anyone have any names of great mariachi bands?

Thanks ladies,

brooke

Yeah!  Congrats Mrs M, it sounds like your wedding was wonderful!!

I'd love to see pictures whenever you have time to post them...I feel like we are kind of wedding twins with the locations that we chose.  We will probably have right around 50 guests as well.  Did you think that the round terrace was a good reception spot for a group that size?

Your welcome party sounds gorgeous.  I can't wait to see your set up. We've started planning ours but I'm not sure what to expect.  Did you do a BBQ?   I also really like the idea of the ambiance music.  We are using a different DJ but I will ask him if he has anything like that.

Oh, and thanks for the info on reservations.  Our welcome party is on Thursday so we want to have a family/rehearsal dinner on Friday night (the night before the wedding) and I was thinking that the Grill would be perfect...and my dad is thrilled to hear that we can get lobster served!!   Did you just tell them that you wanted lobster when you made the reservation?

Congrats again and thank you so much for your help.  There's no way I would be able to plan our wedding without you girls!!

Brooke - we used Aguilas de Mexico (they are the Hacienda Tres Rios house mariachi). They have a mexican trio that they use while they are at the resort but we got an 8 person mariachi from them for our wedding. We got them to play outside the church when we got out and also during the cocktail hour. We LOVED them and our guests loved them too. They all wore the matching white mariachi suit and they sounded great! We got the following pricing from them: $4,000 pesos for the cokctail hour. $2,000 pesos for the cocktail hour So basically for those 2 services which included travel they charged us less than $700 which is an awesome deal!! Especially since our chapel was in Xcaret which is about 15 minutes but can be about 30 with traffic. Becks do you have a facebook account? I haven't uploaded my own pictures yet but we have gotten pictures from a few of our family and friends so you can see those if you want to! Just tell them you are reserving the lobster dinner when you make the reservation for the Grill. Just make sure you make the reservation early. They told us to have the reservations in by 3pm but we got them in earlier than that because our group was at least 30 people both times we did that lobster dinner. For the welcome party we did the BBQ option and it was DELICIOUS! Everyone was so happy with the food!! I can send you the menu we chose if you'd like.

Hi Mrs. M,

Do you mind sharing your pictures from your welcome dinner, cocktail hour, and reception locations with me as well?  We aren't doing a site visit before the wedding and I've been trying to figure out where we want to hold our events on the resort.

BTW, CONGRATULATIONS! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
