Getting married in Mexico!

Hi everyone!

I got engaged in late August, and am just starting to plan for my wedding. We're hoping to having it in Cancun or Playa del Carmen, in late 2010. (Probably early Dec.) We're both from the Chicago area.

My fiance wants a Catholic ceremony AND for it to be legal, as well. (Picky, picky .. I am much more laid-back!.. Ha.) So this will result in some complications.

We are leaning toward Cancun at the moment, because I found this awesome Catholic waterfront chapel at Real Gran Caribe... there is absolutely nothing else like it. However, I'm not crazy about getting married in Cancun... I'd prefer Riv. Maya. I may just have to get over it.

Secondly, we are looking to combine both the civil AND religious ceremony into one, knowing we'll have to pay a bit more for a judge. I'd prefer to get married in the States beforehand, but he wants it to be real and authentic.

Anyway, any advice or tips, feel free to share! Thanks,

Amy

I am in the Same boat. In Chicago, getting married in Riviera Maya in May and have no idea what to do for ceremony. We are considering going to the courthouse here before we leave just to be quick and easy. I think the Religious ceremony is the one you'll remember and the anniversary date you will celebrate? I'm not sure if we will fly our friend (who is s pastor) down with us. Anyway, I decided not to get married in a church even though we are Catholic. I know... family is not going to be pleased and you can't have a Catholic ceremony outside of the church. I feel your pain sista!

Congratulations on your engagement!

We are also doing a legal ceremony (I'm the one who cares though, not FI). You will find a tonne of great info. here and have other ideas for venues, but I know that the Grand Palladium in the Mayan has a chapel that is new. My wedding is at the Palladium in May, (not using the chapel) but I hear it is very nice.

Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
