May 2010 Brides!

Recommended Posts

Yay I am so happy to have found this thread! smile03.gif I am May 18th 2010 in Varadero Cuba - still torn between two resorts. This site has been so amazing so far, and I am sure this thread will help even more!

I have been working on our STD's for the past two weeks, and last night my FI and I realized that they will say exactly the same thing as our invites would. So now we are just going to go with invites only, and maybe do a postcard to remind guests when it gets a little closer.

It is so exciting to get started on things, but holy cow is time flying by!

I'm so jealous... so far I'm at:

8 different bridal salons
around 60 to 70 dresses I've tried on

Another great thread. I just finalized my date - May 1st, 2010 at Dreams Palm Beach in Punta Cana. Everyone who I've sent STDs to are just as excited as I am! I'm going to start reading this thread from the beginning to see what great ideas are being shared. Happy planning fellow May brides. :)

Uh oh...am I REALLY far behind?

I'm spending all my time reading about what other brides are doing to prepare and I haven't lifted a finger yet!

We sent out EMAIL STDs and booked the resort. That is all. I tried on ONE dress and figured I'd go with that, but then I never went back to the store!

Oh well, if it ends up being April 2010 and I still haven't done anything, I'll just go with the flow.

We're getting married in Jamaica, so my attitide is "no problem mon!" If it doesn't get done, it doesn't get done. :)

I really don't think you're that far behind. But if you are, then so am I, lol. I've done a TON of research and have a pretty good idea of what I want and/or what needs to be done -- but just haven't actually done too much yet. We have our reservations made, STD's mailed out, website updated with all the travel info for guests, photographer booked, and that's about it.

I haven't even went to look at dresses yet. I keep putting it off because I feel so fat right now, and my goal is to drop 50 lbs before the wedding - but right now I know I'm not going to like how I look in anything. And then I need to actually change into different dresses with a dressing attendant in the changing room with me?! Uggggg - so I keep putting it off, but I know I need to just do it and worry about alterations later.

I'm another May 8, 2010 bride too! We're going to the Cayman Islands.

We haven't sent out anything and now I'm even MORE freaked out! The resort is booked, I have all the info on a website and have done all the research, but I guess I need to get on sending out the STDs!!!

I just thought I would share our strategy for saving some $$$ on invites/STDs!

We created a wedding website (through brides.com) with all of the details about the wedding, plus everyone will RSVP on the site too. (I had friends who did the same thing and said only a couple of relatives didn't have internet access, so they just called to RSVP and they updated it manually.)

We were originally going to send out save the dates, but realized that they would say the same thing as the invitations (since the RSVPs are online, along with all of the details, there was no need to do the formal invitations with all of the enclosures). So, we decided to send the invites now, even though it's early. That way, people have even more time to plan and save some money if need be. (I'll post a picture when they're done - we went the DIY route too to save even more $!)

So, basically we cut out the cost of save the dates, the cost of RSVP cards and postage, and the cost of multiple invitation pieces and expensive printing. Plus, we both are pretty environmentally conscious, so we were happy to be able to save a few trees in the process. (And some of the paper I am using for the invites is recycled.) YAY!

Oh, and we went on godaddy.com and bought a personalized web address to use on brides.com so it would be easy for people to remember the site address.
We did the same thing. We created a website as our save the dates but we will be sending a formal invitations very shortly. We will probably include a STD magnet and send out reminder emails/phone calls later if really necessary.

Are you ladies giving a deadling for your RSVP? If so, what date?

Aiming to find BM dresses by end of Summer and my dress by October.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
