We had one person cancel, but it was a family friend's guest and we didn't know her. The only one of the 74 we didn't know =) So no harm no foul.
No, I sent out all my info in May of last year at the height of the swine flu and nobody said a word about that either which surprised me...

Wow, that almost works out totally in your favor! I'm 1,000% jealous you have so many friends and family coming. I'm have a total downer day with people that cancelled and haven't booked their flights!

wow 74 people! that is a lot of people.

i just tell whoever mention about the violence that it's more in north mexico and by the Texas border. I tell them that Riveria Maya is very safe and the government is doing everything they can to make sure the tourists are safe. in most cases, the drug cartels won't touch tourists..it s more of cartel against cartel. most of times when an innocent victim is killed, they usually were in a wrong place/time. with the recent shootings at US consulate, they're not sure if the americans were targeted or it was a mistaken identity. i just tell the guests to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings...most of all, DON'T MAKE STUPID DECISIONS! kinda hard if you're all drunk, lol.

i am concerned about my two bridesmaids because they are staying at another resort and they're planning to drive back after the wedding. it is about 20 min drive. i am terrified for them. i tell them please don't get drunk and drive. at night, it is dangerous, especially driving on roads. i don't know if they'll listen to me. i wish they stayed at my resort. they opted to stay at another resort because it is cheaper.

kitten heart, how many guests booked for your wedding?

Yeah my mother is the only one who's expressed a concern on the drug wars and my answer continues to be... "Mom, it's like saying there is a drug war going on in NY so are you afraid to live in California?" She's like... well no... to which my response is, well that's about how far away that is going on from where I'm getting married.

36 people booked, I have 6 more possibilities that want to do last minute. I almost for my sanity want to tell them, no, I'm sick of waiting for people to book. I have like 6 people without flights too. Ugh.

Hey girls,

I have gotten a few people mention to me that they are affraid they actually got me nervous. I did see the same thing on the news about it being the northern border cities. Still, this is the last thing I want to think about during my wedding. It is what it is though.

Why is she saying something if she's not going to your wedding?

I feel you!! Maybe you tell them that the resort requires you to turn in the final payment 45 days before and they cannot attend the wedding after the final cutoff.

one of FI's groomsmen booked yesterday so now his best man is only one left to book. he has not returned FI's calls/texts in past two weeks! seriously.

Just stress that Riviera Maya is safe and for them to use their common sense.

My mom brought the violence to my attention... I was like "mommy we are tourist nobody with money for them to bother us" "also we travelled to other countries when they were in their peek of drug Wars and had no prombles" ... we have to remind them that the news always makes thing worse then they really are... Good Luck to you all with these crazy guests lol

i'm glad to report that my FI's cousin's fiancee helped me with the non resort issue with her MIL(who is R's aunt). she got upset when i told her that her MIL was going to bring her brother/sister who we don't even know. so she called her FI who is R's cousin and told him about it...he called his mom to let her know that it is $100 per person for any non resort guests. so as for now, she is not bringing them but if she is, she is going to pay us for their fees. R just called her to clear things up so now she is not going to bring them. i'm glad this issue is resolved.

now to my godmother...i heard she wants to bring her relatives who are not staying at the resort. god forbid she does that! i am not close to her at all and i invited her because my mom wanted me to.

R's best man still hasnt returned his calls/texts. R showed me his texts to him and nothing.

April 14th is the final due date for the resort. i'd just rather to go ahead and start buying things like chair sashes and such.

KT - I am so sorry about what your mom is saying and the extra 6 people. This should be an easy an process =( I feel for you. And we are lucky with the about of people coming, but the wedding was a long time in the making and everyone was waiting =) Plus we aren't doing anything at home either. This is it! =)

Diana - That's great about the cousins...it puts it in a whole new light when they have to pay =) I hope it works out with the BM and your godmother.

Cara - 56 is awesome...good party crowd. Good Luck!

We are 5 weeks from tomorrow...OMG! It's really coming.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
