Question - ROR Receptions

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies!! I am planning to get married at the ROR in July 2011 and I have some questions. =)

1. If you have the open bar and dancing at Seagrape - is there only certain nights that this area is available?

2. Does anyone know how much it is to rent the disco?

3. At the pool with dancing and drinks - is this private?

4. I have a booking question - I was told that you can start booking in March 2010 for 2011. If I book in March, I don't think I can book my airfare until May or June - How do you confirm if I can't book my whole trip? Also, if I book just the hotel and later deceide to change my arrival or departure date, is this a problem?

Thank u soooo much ladies!! I am excited but nervous about this whole process!!

I can't answer u on pricing of the seagrape but the disco is 150 per hour. I know with the seagrape, a lot of people can look onto your reception. There is a bar right above it and you can look down and watch. Also saturday nights they have the beach party on the beach (its right where the seagrape is).

What you do in regards to booking is secure your wedding date (aka put in the request) then you have three months from the wedding date to secure it with 5 rooms being booked. You may also ask the Riu for an extension on your date if the rates are not there yet. I think you can extend a couple extra months. Its really easy if you get your TA to do this all for you.

Hope this helps :)

TA Maureen works with the ROR and was married there herself. I used her and she was able to answer questions about the resort and weddings that other TAs may not be able to b/c they didn't get married their themselves.

During the day there are people on the beach in front of the Seagrape. Lounge chairs are lined up right in front of that area. I am not sure if you could have that area cleared for you during the day and honestly I wouldn't recommend it. You would have so many people walking through that area that I don't think it would feel private at all.

I had a great time at my poolside reception so I would recommend that for drinks and dancing. It is made private for you and the lighting with the pool behind you provides a great ambiance. There is a seperate walkway through the pool so people don't have to walk through. We only had 2 very rude hotel guests walk through our reception and they did it purposely. I saw them watching us from afar and I think they wanted to be nosey. I gave them a few "nice words" as they walked by. No one else bothered us.

You could also do the disco before it opens at 11 pm for the rest of the resort. There is alot of info about the disco in other threads. Hope this helps!

The poolside reception looked kinda neat ..looks like it is just in the plantation restaurant for the most part.
I did see a beach reception that was down near the wedding gazebo (this was at night). It looked pretty cool because you were out of the way a little bit so you could have your own private party. If you want more info on this, send klopez a private message...she did this.
The disco would be ok too if you have enough people to make it fun. You can rent it before it opens at 11pm for the rest of the resort.

Thank u guys for your help! If you just have drinking/ dancing at the Seagrape at night, they don't close it off? Anyone do the semi- private dinner, how is that? I think I want to do the semi- private dinner and then some sort of party with dancing, drinking and a DJ. Just unsure of the best location. Any help or guidance is appreciated!! Thanks!

There are many past ROR brides who did the semi-private dinner. I had dinner at Mammee Bay at 6:30 & then we had the disco, privately, from 9pm to 11pm. The disco then opens up to the public at 11pm. If you go with the disco, there is a bar/bartender so you'll be able to drink all you want. If there should be something in particular that isn't served at that bar, you could go right outside of the disco where there is another bar.

If you go with the disco, I strongly suggest you have a song list (bring your own music on CD's) with types of music that you want to hear. The DJ may play music that you may not like so it helps to be prepared. You could also ask Chandlyn if he has an Ipod hook up, that way you wouldn't have to be bothered with CD's. When I was there this past June, the DJ had music playing through his laptop.

You could do a search in the Jamaica section for Mammee Bay and also look for Seagrape...those should give you plenty of threads regarding your other reception options.

Hi

I actually just emailed Chandlyn last week about the disco. The price has gone up to $250 for 2 hours including the dj and bar. That is the option that we are looking into. I was also told that I could book a year prior and the airfare isnt available til a year or so in too and we are planning a May 2011 wedding. There are certainly a lot of questions that I have and I have looked into this site to helping and it has.

Good luck planning.

Shannon

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
