It does not have to count as your carry on!!!!!! Just make sure you go to the airline website and print off their policy and take it with you when you go to the airport. Make sure to keep it handy because chances are they will argue with you about it but if you have the documentation to prove the policy to them they cannot deny you. But knowing that you do not have to give up that extra piece of luggage gives me some peace of mind.

I was reading on the US Airways website and it says under special items - Wedding Dress - you can carry it on as long as it is within size limits of carryon. Doesn't this mean it counts as your carryon thenhuh.gif I hope not but that's what I thought it meant..

Most airlines are not going to tell you no, unless the dress is HUGE and the flight is full. Your dress does need to be in a garment bag be able to fit into the carry-on thingy. I worked for 2 airlines, you don't necessarily need to bring documentation w/ you. Any agent can pull up the policy right at their computer. If they argue ask them to prove it and they will pull it up.

I would say that 90% of the girls on this forum have taken their dress w/ them on the plane. There are several threads about traveling w/ your dress (always search before starting a new thread, if you find a thread of your subject you can bump it):

Maximum weight for each individual item shall not exceed 10kg (22 pounds).

Items to be counted include: Any kind of bag or suitcase, briefcases, laptop computers (bags), diaper bags, camera cases that may contain items such as spare lenses and film in addition to the camera, cartons, boxes and other similar items.

Items not to be counted include: Cameras, coats, diplomatic or consular bags, purses 10" x 12" x 8" or less, receptacles containing human remains, strollers, child restraint systems, containers carrying life-sustaining items, live vital organs, crutches, canes, walkers and other similar items.

  • 2 weeks later...

I did a search and couldn't find the answer to my specific question. Delta allows 1 carry-on bag (not exceeding 40 lbs) and a purse. So, does that mean that if I bring my wedding dress with me on the plane, it counts as my carry-on and I cannot bring a small bag with me? Just wondering what other brides have experienced. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
