Wow, I'm sorry to hear you're having to deal with all this stress. But, at least it is a nicer hotel. I am positive everything will work out for you and your guests! Don't be afraid to ask for what you want though ....they have forced you into this position!

Oh my goodness Jessica! What a stressful thing to have happen to you so close to the wedding! I'm sure it will all turn out for the best but it must be so stressful for you. Good luck and let us know how the Pacifico is! As far as I can recall you will be the first bride from this forum there!

I really doubt that they will honor the rates because it is a huge difference. I would settle for guests staying at the Riu Jalisco and just hope that a least they wont charge a day pass for guests to come the day of the wedding. We will see what ends up happening.

My fingers are definitely crossed for you!
Thank you for the positive outlook. My heart started racing like you would not believe when I heard about the closure.

Wow... You definitely don't need more stress being this close to your wedding. Take any upgrades/freebies RIU offers and make the BEST out of the situation!!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!! :s

FI and I had a nice bottle of wine last night to relieve some of this stress. I thought the planning was coming to the end...I was so wrong!

They are consolidating staff and guests to the higher end resorts within their chain (at no additional costs) so that they can deliver a good product. This is instead of shutting down many of the restaurants, offering less menu options and closing facilities at the standard properties.

Typically this is a last minute decision -based upon occupancy levels ( they are waiting till the last minute hoping that levels pick up-if not they go ahead with the consolidation).

You will not get higher prices for the guests that have already booked- they will honor the rates . For those who have not yet booked- they may end up paying the going rate for the new hotel.

It never hurts to ask for additional wedding amenities- just don't be suprised if they are not huge or existant at all. many times the resorts say that they are giving an upgrade to the higher end property (which is true). Usualy the higher end resort would be a difference of 200-600 per couple as the experience tends to offer better food, beverage and amenities.

Believe me I understand how stressful it can be but the end result is you will be marrying the person you love the most in the whole world! The experience will be amazing!
The price difference is definately huge. My question now is so would the resort be really busy and crowded since they are consolidatiing? I guess for now I have to deal with the stress.= but the ending result will be so wonderful.

I really hope this does not happen to anyone. It sure does increase the stress factor. I am hoping for the best and have my confidence in the Riu that they will deliver. We have stayed with them for over 4 years now and I know that they have exceptional service.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
