Ball gown too hot for Mexico??

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies, need your help!

I absolutely LOVE ball gowns..and I really want to wear one for my wedding in Mexico. We are planning it for the end of August in the Mayan Riviera. Has anyone had experience with wearing a ball gown style and being too hot. Your opinions and experiences are much appreciated.

Ps, here is the gown I am in love with:

what a gorgeous dress! It's going to be hot in Mexico no matter what you wear. The dress does look like it will attract a lot of heat but it's YOUR day!!. If you try it on and feel comfortable go ahead. The temperature depends on the time of the day... it's much cooler at night/ evening. Also, if you have the reception indoors in the a/c you will be okay.

OMG the dress is beautiful.

who cares if its going to be too hot..like sheree said you'll be hot no matter what, and you'll be sweating regardless so you may as well do it knowing you're in the dress of your dreams...hopefully we only do this once so be the princess you always hoped to be :)

FORGET THE HEAT and wear that BEAUTIFUL MAGGIE GOWN!!!

Oh, it's is just stunning....and how gorgeous and dramatic it will look against the serene, lush backdrop that is Mexico!

I say if a ball gown is what you want, then you will regret it if you don't have what you truly desire. I also was worried about whether or not I should get a ballgown to wear for my wedding in Jamaica, but I went with my heart and said, "for this gown, I'll deal with it!"

I said "YES!!" to this Sottero & Midgley dress (RSM 1038 ) and think that it'll be worth the heat in the end:

They always say, "Sometimes women have to suffer through a little pain for beauty", and what better day to do what you've gotta do than your wedding day?!

Maybe wear your DREAM DRESS for the ceremony, and then change into something cooler afterward? That way you'd have the best of both worlds!

Screw the heat! I say go for it. I'm wearing a ball gown as well and I think it will be fine. Maybe you'll get lucky and have a bit of a breeze :)

On a side note - my best friend got married last August here in Ontario and I am telling you, it was HOT...stinking, sweating hot. She wore a ball gown (we all wore floor length in fact) and I cannot imagine that it will be any warmer in Mexico than it was that day. We all had a fabulous time and nobody really worried about the heat (especially after a couple of cocktails!)

Good luck - the dress is beautiful!!

  • 1 year later...

I know this thread is old, but I am so glad I found it. I have been debating about the same thing for weeks. Do I buy this gorgeous dream dress even though it will be sweltering in Jamaica on the day of my wedding? Thank you for the encouragement.

I wonder now with perspective how you feel?

my experience in trying on petticoats in the store was they actually made the dresses cooler by sort of lifting the layers up and away from your legs and putting a nice cool layer of sheer fabric in between. maybe that would help with the heat?

and having your shoulders bare is always a good thing when it comes to heat - I definitely think that would help balance a full skirt.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
