Advice for wedding time and location please?

Recommended Posts

We are going to Sandals Negril in May 2010 for our wedding. We have it scheduled for 4PM. However after finding this site and looking at through some posts I am reconsidering the time.

Can anyone give me some advise who has had a wedding there? Is it nicer and cooler in the morning? What would be the most private? From what the wedding planner sent us we were thinking of doing the gazebo near the ocean.

I am actually starting to have second thoughts about the whole thing. Any information would be very helpful!

Thank you

There is a thread about this somewhere...but on the post there was a photo of the ocean and sky (nice and blue) about 10am and another around 4pm (gray and dreary). that photo alone makes me wish I had picked an earlier time for my wedding. But I was also concerned about being hot and sweaty. If this is imortant to you then you maybe can reconsider your time? I knew nothing about this subject either, till I found this message board.

May is a some what rainy month for Jamaica, but by no means horrible- most rains will occur in the early mornings before 8am or late afternoon. It's like Florida with the showers though- usually they are brief down pours then it's lovely again!

That being said it is usually quietest on the beaches around 4pm as most sun bathers have had their fill and start heading in to get ready for dinner. The next quiestest time is around 10 am -many are just getting out to the beach around then!

There are two beach gazebos- one is closer than the other to the beach but they are pretty close to each other !

Well, thanks Jennifer! I am getting married at 4:00. It's nice to know that while the water may not seem as bright, that most of the sunbathers will be elsewhere! The beach there is not very big, I don't want to have a bunch of umbrellas and sunbathers in my wedding photos. If ther are still there hopefully they will take it upon themselves to move a little.

I am getting married in May, which as Jennifer said is rainy season, but we wanted to book a time that wasn't during peak/super expensive season, and wasn't during full-out hurricanse season, so May it was!

And after doing a lot of statistical research on what time of day rain is most likely in Jamaica, I discovered that rain is most likely @ 4 pm in the month of May, so we went with a 2 pm ceremony time. Here is the link if anyone wants to check it out for their wedding month: Jamaica Weather | jamaica-guide.info (click on your chosen month on midway down the page on the left hand side).

Hope that helps, and if it does rain, fingers crossed it will come and go quickly so we can get on with our celebrations! wink.gif

We got married at SNG in April at 5:00 PM (sunset). I'm very glad that we choose that location and time. B/c of the heat, I would defiantly recommend the later, the better. If you wanted it in the morning, I don't think they start weddings early enough for it to still be cool then, lol. We saw rain for only about 20 min. one day the whole entire week at about 2:00.

We got married at the large gazebo right on the beach. Since everyone was inside getting ready for dinner, relaxing, etc there was barely anyone on the beach. Even if there were, you wont notice, at the moment, it'll only be you and your FI that you'll notice =) Feel free to ask any questions and GL.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
