making a mexico wedding legal

Recommended Posts

From what I read it does not sound difficult to make a wedding in Mexico legally recognized in the US. I would appreciate if someone who has been through the process would let me know if its easy or difficult. It seems like the hotel coordinates all the legal stuff for you. Once you bring that back to the US, is the process simple?

Thanks!

ROFL... Not a good question for me to answer.. :-)

Ok so having a legal wedding in mexico isn't bad, you have to have blood work and follow the normal rules there. I paid extra to have my apostiled. So I get back after the wedding to find out your marriage license has to be translated into english, so I email my WC and she sends it to me in English.. Nope not good enough for the State of Michigan so I had to pay even more money to have it done by a translation company. So once that gets back It will make my fourth attempt for the state to change my stuff over.

Word of advise, call your local SofS office and find out what the requirements are it's different from state to state. And make sure you have everything they are asking for..

You have to have your marriage license apposiled & translated by an offical company on their company letter head, name, address & signature of the person who did the translation. It cost me $50.00 and if you tell them it's for the SofS then they know what is required to make it legal. I'll let you know if I run into more problems.

OH and be sure to change your registration at the SofS office at the same time or else you'll have to go back and do it all over again when you renew.

Or, if you're like me and like to fly by the seat of your pants, you can take your marriage license from Mexico- in Spanish to the Social Security office just to see what they'll tell you. Then, when the (wonder of all wonders) DON'T make you have it translated, but just get you a new social security card (I seriously think the girl that did my paperwork there was new and had no clue what she was doing!), you march straight over to the Secretary of State with your same spanish translation paperwork and demand that they honor it since the Social Security office did! The SOS tried to tell me I had to have it translated, but I pitched a fit about how the Social Security office took it, yada yada, they got a manager, and I got my way...lol

Now, i'm sure i'll have to have it translated to get my passport changed, and probably my student loans and stuff, but for now at least I have a new Drivers License and Social Security card!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
