Should we be paying for the off-property guest day passes

Recommended Posts

If guests decided they didn't want to book at the same resort then it will be up to them to cover the cost.

I also just listed on our wedding website that if they planned to stay at another resort they would have a day pass fee, as well as any transportation to and from the resorts at their own cost.

Edited:  That being said, we have friends coming who live in Mexico and I never really thought about it until this post that we should probably pay for them.

For sure it's a nope- if people are staying elsewhere to "save money"... Then they can pay the pass fee, that being said; my resort doesn't charge gusts to attend the wedding if you are hosting private events that they are attending. If they are coming on property for any other events than ceremony or private reception- they charge.

I have 4 guests who are staying at another resort to save money, they have agreed to pay their day passes but now on top of that I have to pay $25 for them to come to the cocktail hour and then $55 for them for dinner.  I don't know how much they are saving but they will each need to pay $155 for day passes and then a cab back and forth to the resort.  The one guest is also a groomsmen who at the last min decided it was too much and didn't book with our resort/group.  They are going to be missing out on all the other events as well which is kind of a bummer.

Pay for the special circumstances. ..but others let then know up front there'll be additional cost for not staying where the wedding is being held. Period

I absolutely would not. We have maybe 5 people staying at another resort... my guest were provided a travel agent and plenty of information and options with our resort and its sister resort. my FH and I did a lot of leg work and decision making in picking the best resort for all of our guests, so I was slightly offended that they chose another resort anyway. The guests that are staying at our resort are getting nothing extra, and have paid for their own trip, so I agree with other comments in that respect, I didn't pay for anything for those that are staying at our resort, I will not for those that want to stay elsewhere either. We also made it VERY clear from the begining we set up this resort and travel arrangments, and if they went elsewhere the guest pass would range from 70-100$ depending if they came for the whole day or just the ceremony, so that is on them.

I am getting married at Secrets Wild Orchids in Jamaica and we have a few  guest that opt to stay elsewhere to cut cost.  :( I am not too happy about that because the day pass is $80 per guest. I was under the impression that they can pay their own day pass on the day of the wedding but the wedding coordinator informed me  for accounting purpose I can pay for it in my wedding package or have the guest that opt to stay elsewhere complete a form at least two days before the wedding date to cover their day pass.

I don't know if I should suck it up or cover half the cost for them.

I figured since we are really asking folks to come on vacation with us while we wed and all the cost with flying and staying at the resort I was not planning to do a gift registry. Now I am definitely going to add one if I am covering so much folks day pass.

We were in the same boat and were not sure how to handle this either!

What we ended up deciding was we were going to cover the cost for anyone staying off resort and coming to our wedding. It is only $65US/pass at the resort we are staying at and we figured most would stay at the same resort. Our guest list ended up not being that big anyway (30) so it wouldn't have been as big of an extra cost for us as a larger wedding group. This may have changed our minds too!

We encouraged everyone to stay at the same resort, and provided lots of information about it and what it had to offer. We did not let anyone know there would be the extra fee or advertise that we would pay it. The only reason anyone would stay at another place would be the cost, since we chose a fairly expensive resort. We decided that we completely would support anyone's decision to stay at a less expensive option (especially if it meant they could come vs not come) and since it was quite the expense already we would just pay for it.

I agree with the other responses, you should make it as easy as possible for your family to join you - for sure for your cousin I would pick up the cost regardless of what you choose for the rest of the guests.

Hope this helps!

I don't think you should have to pay for guest passes after all it is their vacation as well, and they are attending your wedding one of those days. It is not fair to pay for guests who chose not to stay at the resor.

    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
    • So we are currently looking for an all inclusive resort for the wedding. We have 60 guests and found all the Dreams resorts as options and all of them gave us a quote and discounted price since it’s off season etc. Resorts in Punta Canta gave us a reasonable price, Dominicus gave us a really good deal then La Romana Resort and Spa gave us their regular price and so hard to negotiate. Will someone tell us how special is this resort that they won’t give us a good discount when all my guests are staying in their resort for 5-8 days. We are bringing $$$ in their resort and not give us a discount?  What is so special with this resort?  Can somebody recommend a beautiful resort?
