I was told that if someone buys you a shower gift they usually don't give a wedding gift, is that proper etiquette?

I have always bought both. The shower gift is just for the girlfriend anyways. I always spend about $50 on the shower gift and depending on the person $50-$150 on the wedding gift.
          Hope that helps!

We haven't received many gifts for the wedding and I was told by someone that it is because some of them gave shower gifts. I always give both a shower gift and a wedding gift. I was surprised to hear that some people don't.

Well your wedding is still a bit away. People could give them to you closer to your wedding or even at your wedding. At least thats what I would do.
I always give a shower gift (off the registry, for the couple) and then give money as a wedding gift to the couple.

I was married a month ago and thought that people would give gifts at the wedding or shortly thereafter, but we really haven't gotten anything. We are having an AHR but that is for people who were unable to attend the wedding.

My sister just got married last week and she really didn't get anything for her wedding, however, most of her gifts came from her shower. This must be some unwritten rule, but I am unaware of it.

I really didnt expect to get anything from the people that attended my wedding because they paid a lot to come. But we still did get presents from most (our aunts, uncles, grandparents, and some cousins). And we got some from people that couldnt attend too. It was really nice of them especially when it was unexpected.
