I feel like I have to vent!!

Ok let me start by saying I love my FI's family 99% of the time... but there are things that they do that drive me BONKERS!

My family is from Eastern Canada, and my FI's Dad and family live in Montreal. When we began researching DW locations, we found a travel agent who could give us a fantastic deal on a package out of Toronto, Ontario. Since there are no direct flights from Halifax to Punta Cana in late June, we decided that it was the best option. For those that don't know Canada well, Toronto is THE main hub for domestic and international flights... but Montreal is a close second. So we decided to take the package from Toronto, since it was actually almost $400 less than a package leaving from Montreal. Noone in my family is complaining that it is leaving from Toronto (since it is really the only option), but my FI's family and ESPECIALLY his Dad complain that it is such a huge hassle to have to drive ALL THE WAY TO TORONTO. We are talking about a 6 hour drive here; my family (should they choose to drive to Toronto) will be looking at 18 hours. But noone seems to care, since the package is so cheap. FFIL keeps saying he hates the idea of Toronto, why didn't we do the package from Montreal, blah blah blah even after it is explained to him ad nauseam that it is MUCH cheaper. He has even gone so far as to say that even though he has put down his deposit on the trip, that he will change the name to some of his other family members (his brothers and sisters) and fly out of the nearest US hub, which is only 1 hour from his home. This seems to be pretty selfish and insulting to me, and its frustrating... I just want to shake him and say "Wake up!!! My family is driving 18 hours or taking a flight to Toronto without a complaint!!! WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEMhuh.gif" kind of thing! Obviously I won't, because it would be a huge disrespect, but its insinuating that I am only thinking of my family. My family is telling me not to worry about him (since he is kind of known for putting a negative spin on EVERYTHING), but its hard.

I just had to get this off of my chest, FI is tired of hearing about it from all sides, and I know it hurts his feelings (the way his Dad is acting).

<3 You ladies are the best :)

Arg that is frustrating. It's frustrating when anyone complains about anything to do with your wedding because of all the work we've put into making it so awesome!!

I'd say if he wants to fly out of whereever then let him! Who cares how he gets there. Maybe he will then shut up about it if he travels to a different city for his flight or just flies out of Montreal.

Goodluck!!!

I agree with the other ladies, he is free to travel from Montreal, it shouldn't really be an issue - you can get really cheap connecting flights if he wants to fly to Toronto first - but if they have the option of going direct then why not let them take it? Even if you're on different flights, as long as they make it for the wedding then I would say let them do what they want. At least they are all supporting your decision - something to be happy about (even if they are somewhat stubborn I really don't think he's making a ridiculous request, seems fair to me!). Let us know how it works out though :)

(PS I feel your pain, we all have to go to Toronto for our trip in June from Winnipeg/Halifax - it sucks, we have an 8 hour lay over on the way back, but oh well!)

Hey,

I would just let him do what he wants. Just let him know, however that he will not be considered part of the group so if anything happens (heaven forbid) that you have to change dates or even hotels, he is SOL.

Don't worry; it wil work out in the end :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
