First off not sure if this was the right place to post this thread. If not please let me know and I will delete it and move it to the correct place.

Anyways I am getting married at the new dreams riviera cancun resort. And since it is not open yet. I was hoping I could just get some general questions answered by some previous Dreams brides or ones further along in the planning process..

First Any of you had a reception at one of their restaurants and payed a small fee?? Instead of have a private reception. I am really thinking this might be a possibility if we do not have over 10 guest. If so how was that experience?

Second I am on a budget and would love to have dancing after the wedding. But not sure if having a d.j is in the budget. At the resort website it mentions a desires sports bar. It says it offers a dance floor. Anyone take advantage of this sports bar for a some free dancing after the wedding?

    Thank you

      Hi!

I am strongly considering Dreams Punta Cana. I am also on a budget. To address your questions:

      1. The semi-private reception at the restaurant is free from what I understand and is definately possible BUT depending on how large your group is or what is going on at the restaurants at the time, they may or may not do it. Therefore, I would be prepared to set some money aside for a private function. From what I gather from people who did it, it seemed nice enough and secluded enough and they didn't feel that it took away from the 'magic' that is a wedding.

      2. Many DW bridegrooms bring their ipods with their music pre-prepared on them and then just rent the speakers for the reception; definately a cheaper option although it does require you to DIY the playlist for your reception (i.e. prepared x hours of cocktail music, y hours of dinner music, z hours of dance music etc). At Dreams Punta Cana, for example, it costs $95 USD plus taxes to rent the speakers for music for the reception. You hook your ipod full of music and voila!

      3. Many do the sports bar/disco after their receptions especially since some resorts force you to end your reception by 10 or 11 pm or else pay a hefty price for overtime. Note that kids may not be allowed at the bar/disco.

      Hope that helps you :)

Thank you that was very helpful.

The prices I got back from the new resort on speaker rental was 180 per hour. Kind of expensive.

I just wonder what kind of music they will playing at the bar? I wonder even if I could request some songs?
We only have one child coming with us to the resort. Which is my own. So thanks for pointing that out I never thought about that. Huuummmm Decision decisions.

I think you could probably find more info on these questions/get more direct experience responses if you post under the DW in Mexico - Riviera Maya/Cancun forum.

We're getting married in Dreams PV so I can't help, sorry!
          We're married! Jamie

I have heard of some discos where they will announce the bridegroom entrance and play their wedding song if you ask in advance. I would inquire with the resort directly on this matter.

I placed this on another thread and I heard this might be a better thread to post it on.
