Montego Bay - Half Moon vs Ritz Carlton

My wedding is scheduled for the Ritz Carlton in March - and I'm having a horrible time planning. My coordinator has really dropped the ball. She has not focused on my wedding at all and does not follow through. She says she will send me things by the end of the week doesn't send them. She doesn't call me when she says she will. She doesn't remember things we discussed. This has been since I signed my contract - and I've complained multiple times. To make matters worse, she has recently been promoted and is no longer a wedding coordinator - she's still working on my wedding but it is clear that she is focused on other things. She didn't send me regular updates on my room block - and as a result, many of my guests were told that there were no rooms left in the block. And then to make matters EVEN worse, If you google the hotel and look at news articles, you'll see that about 1/4th of their staff was recently laid off. And, Ritz Carlton does not own the hotel - they just manage the hotel. The owners feel that the property is being mismanaged and are trying to get the Ritz out. It's a mess.

I'm pretty laid back - but we're paying a lot of money for this wedding and have over 75 guests coming so the hotel is making even more money on my wedding - and I want to feel like I'm being taken care of. I'm sure everything will be perfect on my wedding day - but it's quite annoying to deal with this. I wouldn't recommend the hotel at this time. They have too many internal things going on.

Hey Marne,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Who are you dealing with?

I was considering having my wedding there and received weekly emails and follow-up phone calls to see if I had made a decision.

I will pm the person who contacted me to see if they are able to help.

Hi everyone!  I am getting married at the Ritz in December...I wondered if any of you ladies got your hair or make-up done at the salon there?  I will be arriving just a few days before the wedding.  I'm planning on going with the salon for hair and make-up but I'm not sure about the quality of their work.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
