Step-MOG buys same color dress as MOB

Recommended Posts

OK so my husband I eloped on the fly in Maui 2 weeks ago to avoid drama and now are planning a reception at home. to make a long story short, I told his step mother my mom was wearing black. So she emails me yesterday and tell me they can be twins- she jsut bought a black dress (ALMOST SAME ONE) and calls my mom at work to see if they can match jewelry!!! WHAT THE HECK>?!~?!?! Does she have any class/etiquettehuh.gif? Somebody help me b/c what am i supposed to say? My mom is sooooo mad (PS my parents are paying for this ENTIRE 200 person reception). Come on though- who doesnt know that you dont match your dress to MOB?

There is no way she is this ignorant- she has to be trying to tick us off? Please any advice is appreciated.

Maybe just maybe she just don't know anything about etiquette?? Can it be possible to talk to her without hurting her feelings or making her inconfortable and see where she is coming from with this idea of wearing almost the same dress and jewelry as your mom?

I just think she is intentionally behaving like a biotch. It was made very clear that my mom picks her color, and then his mom can pick hers. This woman is off her rocker ie i told her i want a chocolate cake from my fav bakery- my two stipulations since she offered to get the cake. She tells me she is abs not getting it from that bakery. Like, whose wedding is this? I jsut cant wait for everything to be over.

Hmmm, I don't know. If it wasn't black, I would say it's more of an issue. But black is the color that SO many women wear to weddings. Usually the parents coordinate to the bridal party, and then it would be more obvious if they were both wearing a teal/purple/fuschia/yellow/whatever color dress. I wouldn't worry about black too much.

Ouch... I hear you. She is that kind of a MIL... Sorry she is such a bit$%?. Must be hard for you to handle. If you want a chocolate cake from your favorite bakery you should make sure to get it... It is your wedding, not hers! I don't know what kind of relantionship you have with her, but you should let her know you are not happy with her behavior and would like for her to understand that it is upsetting you.

I'm with Carly on this one...black is fairly generic and I'm sure nobody will realize (or make a big fuss about) the MOB and MOG both wearing black. I think their accessories will make the difference...but I would certainly be sure not to share any jewelry secrets with the MOG because it sounds like she would make sure they were "twins". Bizarre and inconsiderate...but in the grand scheme of things I would just let it go.

What a terrible situation. I'm not very good on advice, but maybe this will make you laugh. The ironic thing is that one of my girlfriends sent me this joke today and IMO totally works for you...

Jennifer's wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing

could dampen her excitement -- not even her parent's

nasty divorce.

Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be

the best-dressed mother- of-the-bride ever!

A week later, Jennifer was horrified to learn that her

father's new Young wife had bought the exact same dress!

Jennifer asked her to exchange it, but she refused.

'Absolutely not, I look like a million bucks in this

dress, and I'm Wearing it,' she replied.

Jennifer told her mother who graciously said, 'Never

mind sweetheart. I'll get another dress. After

all, it's your special day

A few days later, they went shopping and did find another

gorgeous dress. When they stopped for lunch, Jennifer asked

her mother, 'Aren't you going to return the other

dress? You really don't have another occasion where you

could wear it.

Her mother just smiled and replied, 'Of course I do,

dear.

I'm wearing it

to the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding.

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
