car rentals in cancun & RM

Recommended Posts

has anyone rented a car in cancun or RM? Where did you rent from and how was your experience?

we think we want to rent something for the entire time we're there to make it easier to get around and to be able to do stuff on our own on our honeymoon. But there are so many rental companies I want to make sure we use a good one and don't get ripped off!

any suggestions?

There are two local companies that have great rates and are usually highly recommended.

Cancun Car Rental, Rent a car in Cancun, Playa del Carmen Easy Way Car Rental

Cancun Rent a Car | Cancun Airport Car Rental | Caribbean Rent a Car

They both include all the insurance you need in their rates and cancunrentacar even includes a zero deductible in their prices. We are using cancunrentacar on our trip next week, so I would be glad to tell you how it went.

Everyone I know on a different riviera maya travel board uses one of the two companies I mentioned above with great results 99% of the time. Renting from one fo the international big companies does not always guarantee good service down there either. I have heard of problems with them as far as pricing and failing to mention when you reserve the car that you HAVE TO buy the mandatory insurance when you get the car.

Hope some of that helps.

Hey hey Jilly!

I have only been there once and did not find it necessary since the bus just goes up and down and around the strip for very little $. Any excursions we took had a shopping centre as a meeting spot, so we didn't get lost trying to get anywhere beyond where the bus took us.

Sorry I cannot give actual rental advice.

Do you have some fun things planned already?

well, we need transportation to get us to our honeymoon resort. From there we're really not sure, but we liked the idea of just being able to go and do whatever we wanted. I know I'd like to take a ride down to tulum, it sounds beautiful. And I want to be able to go into PDC for a day, I think we'll probably take the ferry to cozumel, so that we can check it out. Nothing definite, but those are some of my ideas. We'll probably do chichen itza ruins while my family is there. Although, I didn't realize how far chichen itza is!! I thought it was maybe an hour, but I think I read somewhere its a few hours! I know thats one thing we really want to do, but I don't know if I want to spend half the day in a van!

Oooh yeah, I did the trip to Chitchen Itza. We paid for a tour, big airconditioned bus, took a long time, (they take you through little towns along the way) ... but well worth it! Of course, I want to visit as many pyramids as I can in this lifetime... but they really are impressive.

We got a little tour, then we could walk around on our own. On the way back we stopped at a pretty nice restaurant area that had lunch set up and then you could change clothes and go swim in the 'cenote' - underground lake. It did take all day.

I think you have a good plan of things to do!

You know I am going to try to get every detail out of you when you get back :)

oh good I'm glad you liked the tour, do you know what company you did it through? That sounds good that they stop some places along the way too so you get to see some other areas of mexico. I think it will be fun, we're definetly doing it!

I will give you all the details you'd like when we get back. I just hope we have enough time to do everything we want to do! I know we'll have a couple days of hanging out at the resort before the wedding, so I'll have plenty of beach and pool time, so by the honeymoon we'll be ready to go see some sites.

I want to say it was through Apple, but I may be wrong. They were set up in the lobby of the Royal Solaris.

The other tour we took was a snorkeling trip which was nice, down in Puerto Morelos, (cook out on the beach, very cool), but there is snorkeling at Dreams.

Just slather on the sunscreen on those beach days before the wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
