Hi All,

My name is Laura and I am new here. My fiance and I got engaged in January of this year and recently put aside our plans for a wedding in our city to have a destination wedding.

We are planning on getting married in March, 2011 in Jamaica. I have no idea where to start or how to even select the best resort. Any ideas would be appreciated

Laura

Welcome to the forum. There is a ton of info regarding resorts on this forum. My suggestion is to either google resorts in Jamaica or buy the magazine "destination weddings" Barnes and noble has a ton of DW magazines. Highlight the resorts that interest you and then check out what brides that have been married there have to say on this site. You will find that brides that have been married give great and very accurate feedback. I know this because I did a site visit to calm my nerves and pretty much the girls on this forum were on the money with their details. Good luck!

I found picking the resort was one of the most difficult of the processes. You need to figure out what you are looking for from the resort (ammenities, wedding packages etc). I picked ROR due to the large size of the resort, its known for its weddings and there was a free wedding option. The resort was not a disappointment when I arrive. It is gorgeous.

The best advice I got on here was to make a list of your must haves and go from there. For instance...Must be all inclusive, must allow children, must offer a wedding on the beach, etc. Having that heart to heart with yourself and your guy will lead you down the right path and hopfully give you some focus.

You can even consult a TA. I've only been working with mine for a week and I am so glad I found her. I can already tell she's going to make the process much easier.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
