Hi all,

We are getting married April 19th at Dreams Tulum, and are thinking about honeymoon options -- we want to leave Dreams and check out somewhere new without flying. Thought you might have some good ideas!

We are thinking--

Maybe somewhere smaller, more secluded, no kids, must have swimmable beach, romantic!!

Let me know your thoughts!

Leah

we're getting married at dreams cancun and then moving to el dorado royale. The beach is swimmable, but I've heard the sandbags aren't very pretty. We don't plan on spending a lot of time at the beach on our honeymoon anyway, we'll probably be out on excursions or at the pool or something, so its not a big deal for us.

another place that I really like was royal hideway, it looks beautiful.

i really like EDR. ive shot a few weddings there. and did a photo review of the place for people last time i went. its not small though. but thats one of the things i like about it. that its spread out. you dont feel on top of other people. the sandbags dont bother me. but they do some people.

here are some links - el dorado royale

I was totally going to suggest EDR. It's gorgeous, romantic, no kids and yes, the beaches are swimable. The sandbags are massive, but honestly, it didn't bother me. Some people (that I've read of on TripAdvisor) said the sandbags ruined their vacations... I honestly can't see that. It was a gorgeous resort and the sandbags just aren't that big of a deal.

I'd also suggest the upgrade to the casita if you can afford it. I only saw my cousin's pictures (she didn't even invite us in! lol), and they're AMAZING!

I think El Dorado Seaside is a smaller, more inexpensive alternative to EDR. I believe they're also adults only. I know someone that went there just before we took our trip down there. He really enjoyed it. Sorry, I don't know too many details though.

Exactly!! It's completely spread out, and to walk from one end to the other it took us 45 minutes + (we ended up hoping a cart about 3/4 of the way through!). BUT it was perfect like that. They have carts if you don't feel like walking. It was totally private. When I was there it was full, but it felt really quiet and really private. It's my favourite resort. Perfect for a honeymoon!

Edited to add: I wrote a review when I got back from my visit. It may or may not help you.... http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...ew-w-pics.html

If you are looking for something a little different and very romantic, try Copal Cabanas in Tulum for a night or two. Jason and I stayed there last year for a night. The web site describes it as a "rustic candle lit hotel". This is not a luxory resort but it had to have been one of the most romantic places I have ever been to. There is no electricity therefore no air conditioning, no television, no phone, or electric lights. The beds are covered by a canopy of white netting. At night the trails throughout the property are lit by lanterns. Our cabana was situated a few feet away from the beach. We fell asleep to the sound of crashing waves. The beach is beautiful and absolutely swimable. Suspended "beach beds" are on the beach. At night, Jason and I stargazed on one of the beach beds. I have never seen so many stars in my life. This place is such a quiet and beautiful santuary. Because of the atmosphere and lack of distractions, it just lends itself to romance. There is a spa on the property. This is definately not everyone's cup of tea. It's very rustic and a nudity friendly environment. But I definately recommend it. Incredibly beautiful and romantic! I felt like I was in a movie. Here's the link to the web site.

  • 4 weeks later...

we stayed at ana y jose for our honeymoon and it was amazing. we looked at the cabanas but decided we wanted air conditioning and a bar on site! it was very romantic, secluded, beautiful (swimming) beach, rental car included, very attentive staff, not 5 star meals but the breakfasts included were great, and the list goes on...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
