Do I need to pre-pay hair/makeup?

Ok I am back from Beaches and here is the answer to my own question....NO I did not have to prepay for any hair or makeup appts. They charged it right on our room tab, not only that there were 5 weddings on my day and I still was able to request the appt time that I wanted, with only 2 days notice. Maybe they just go out of your way because they know you are getting married there, but I am annoyed that they were hounding me every other week by phone. Also, do NOT pre-pay any photography packages because then you may be stuck with photos you may not like. In all honesty, I was not impressed with my hair or makeup. I had never had either done before professionally and didn't know what to expect. I got there early to pick out a hairstyle from a magazine, and the one I ended up with looked barely similar. Also, she made my face about 3 shades too light which looked horrible in some of the photos lighting. I had spent 6 months getting facial peels and taking great care of my face, so to see the earlier photos of me looking like I was covered in caulk was upsetting. Ironically, the more I sweated and blotted, the better the photos looked.

I did try and mention these things to the makeup stylist, but she kept telling me not to look in the mirror until I was done, and everything was always 'no problem, mon". Not to worry anyone, just keep an eye on what is going on.

Thanks for this info! I am going to Beaches Boscobel and was worried about this. I think I will get my hair done there, but not sure about makeup. At a minimum I will have them use my own makeup, since I am kind of weirded out by products used on others, plus I sometimes have weird reactions to eye makeup.

I also like the advice on the photography. We planned to go with the $1200 package, but like you said, what if we don't like enough of them to justify that whole package? Then we could just pick the ones we like. Great call!

Hi again,

The stylists were very nice, I just trusted them a a little too much I guess. Don't be afraid to ask them to correct anything you don't like though.

The whole photography thing there is very misleading. If you like your photos you can still get the packages, or you buy a print or image on disc for $20.00 each. So I really don't know why they want this money upfront, unless the main WC gets a booking bonus?

Another thing that didn't make any sense (if any TA's know the truth about this, correct me) but they will have the same resort photographers take pics of you randomly, or you can schedule a shoot with them. Although the people are wearing the same uniforms and seem to have the same gear as the "wedding photographers", the wedding photos are still more (if you want to buy a pkg of your family on the beach it's cheaper, for instance). When I asked the photoshop staff about why the prices were different, they replied "um well yeah they use better cameras". I was very skeptical about this.

When we went to Sandals we got 15 images on disc, a free wood frame, and a free huge bottle of Appleton rum for $140.00. But the cameras all look the same to me.

Just FYI

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
