We choose Cabo for many reasons:

1. We love, love, love Mexico.

2. We had never been to Cabo.

3. All of my co-workers (who are from Mexico) recommended it.

4. It is a destination that is easy to get to from different areas of the U.S.

5. It offers many activities, such as golf, fishing, etc. that will be enjoyable for our friends and family.

6. It's beautiful!

We chose Dominican Republic because it was not Jamaica (my husbands family is from Jamaica and they wanted to go somewhere else), we also would have had alot of FH relatives that we didn't really know, expect to be invited. Cost also came into play, DR was cheaper then most places (we are paying for 8 people). The beaches are breathtaking in Punta Cana, and the resort we chose is newer, and accessible, my daughter is sick and needs a wheelchair.

We chose the British Virgin Islands because we went there together last year for a vacation and we lived on a small sailboat for 5 days in September (which is rather warm and buggy). But after that trip I was absolutely sure that we had staying power and that I really wanted to marry him.

Plus the BVI is beautiful, not overly developed and is a sailing mecca which we both love. The other great things were that even though it is another country they use the US dollar for their currency, English is the official language-so low threshold for those that aren't used to international travel.

We found this great, small hotel with a world renowned restaurant so that clinched it, and we can do some island hopping for our honeymoon since we're already in the Caribbean.

We chose Jamaica because:

1. It is a relatively short flight from the east coast.

2. It is affordable for our guests.

3. We didn't want to do "traditional" b/c both of our dads have passed away.

4. Mike has been to 2 weddings there and loved it.

5. It seems like one big party and that's what we want our wedding to be!

We picked Puerto Vallarta; more specifically Las Caletas.

We chose PV mainly because Joe really wanted to go there. After months of searching locations PV was the one we both agreed on. And since it was our first vacation together it had some sentimental value as well.

Aslo, we wanted a private beach and were finding that it was practically impossible to get one. Once we found out Las Caletas privided a private beach in this beautiful location we were sold!

Also, Mexico was a top runner because it was affordalbe for guests, and we love mexico!!

We decided on Lake Tahoe because we are poor!! Tee hee.

We wanted to get married someplace other than our hometown, St. Paul, and couldn't ask our family (all of whom live paycheck to paycheck) to fly some place outside of the US. That and we really aren't "beach" people.

We thought about Charleston, SC and Vegas as well. We settled on Tahoe because it is beautiful. As luck would have it we may end up getting married on the beach because of the size of our group.

We chose Ocho Rios, Jamaica because it seemed the most similar to Hawaii (with the beautiful lush gardens, waterfalls, mountains, and ocean) without the expense.

We chose Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Resort because it's a great AI and includes our welcome reception, rehearsal dinner, et al.; affordable for us and our guests; a short flight for our east coast guests; and b/c we LOVE Jamaican food.

When I was younger my father was in the military and was posted to Bermuda twice, so for me, it was more about the feeling of going home to get married.

We chosed the Coco Reef Resort for our wedding, due to the beautiful wooden walkway down to the beach. The first time I saw it online I knew that was where I wanted to get married.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
