Time to Eat-Clean!

Recommended Posts

How are you doing with this so far?

I decided to look into it as well and started on "Cooler 1" today. For me the sweet cravings are going to be the worst so I bought some agave nectar to add to my green tea or whatever else if I need a small boost of sweet.

you might want to check out In Defense of Food. it's a very similar plan. You eat more whole food & real food. That book is fine with alcohol but anti-snacking. I am a snacker. I can't go a few hours without food, so i just ignore him on that. maybe he doesn't get the hungry shakes, but i sure do. I've been thinking more about the quality & variety of my food more than calories. I have been doing a crop share with a local farm so I get a box of locally-grown fruits & vegetables.

I'm glad to see these changes are being made. Food was becoming hard to find in stores & all this food-like stuff was starting to take it's place. After carb-free pasta started hitting the shelfs it was just getting crazy.

In Defense of Food isn't really a diet book. There isn't a plan. Well, if there is it's just the basic principals of eat real food, mostly veggies & fruit, and not too much.

I agree. Chemicals masquerading as food is gross. What the F is carb-free pasta? That is a crime against humanity I think. Is that even possible?? hehehe

I recently learned that I have Celiac Disease (i.e. autoimmune disease) and I can't have gluten. At first, I thought it was going to be horrible because that meant no bread, desserts, and/or pizza. After six months, I can truly say that I am so much healthier and I have lost 20 lbs without trying. Even Betty Crocker has cake mix and brownie mix now that is gluten free. My skin looks much better and over all, I am happy that I have a new eating lifestyle but not by choice. If I want to ever leave my house and/or feel normal, then I will stay on this eating lifestyle. Just have to plan better for meals.

The big fear will be wedding day with all of this. I will have to make sure I am extremely careful about eating the entire month and try to not stress out. Yea, stress intensifies it. sad.gif All in all, food = poison.

Right now, I could go for some good old Banana Pudding! Maybe I will search for a recipe online that's safe.

I bought Tosca's book a few weeks ago and have tried a few recipes from her cook book and they are amazing. I have been eating clean (well cleaner, I'm not perfect ) for about 3 months and have been hitting the gym...so far I am down 20 pounds and feel great! I think her whole idea is for us to be more aware of what we put into our bodies...all the chemicals and additives ect cannot be good for us!

I also agree with Sloan...check out Oxygen Magazine for great tips and hints. It has become my fitness bible and I look forward to my new issue each month!!

I've been doing this for the past 2-3 weeks, not perfectly, but I've made some serious changes in my diet. I'm noticing that I'm not as puffy or bloated as I was before when I was eating a lot of white carbs, and sugar. I still need a bit of chocolate every day so after lunch I have a granola bar with choc chips in it and after dinner sometimes I have a little handful of semi-sweet choc chips. My meals are pretty boring though so maybe I should grab this cookbook - I didn't know it existed! Thanks for the tips.

Celiac Disease seems so inconvenient, especially when you first find out you have it... BUT like you said countrygirl you become healthier simply by virtue of the strict diet you need to follow. I have IBS, so I can understand the need to stay away from certain foods! Lactose is especially dangerous, messes everything up! They sell the Eat-Clean book at my gym, it sounds like its worth investing in. I'm always afraid to buy things like that, since there are so many gimmick diet books out there that are unreasonable. But I trust you ladies!! :)

I went to the local co-op for the first time (it's on the other side of town) and it was like entering another world lol. I felt so freaking lost in the aisles full of incredibly healthy, all natural, unidentifiable stuff. Thank goodness there was a sweet lady in the bulk section that took one look at my list and got me headed in the right direction.

So now I'm home with my bee pollen, agave nectar, quinoa and some motivation to make sure my $$ doesn't go down the drain.

I don't think I'll be able to follow a strict diet but since we eat pretty healthy anyway adding and subtracting a few things shouldn't be too hard.

That's what I want. A grocery store that doesn't even tempt me with crap! It's harder making good choices when you are bombarded with the easy (heat and serve!) and the unhealthy (Fruit loops!!)

There's also an Eat Clean recipe book for kids and families. I saw it at the store yesterday.

Hey, thanks for asking! Its going really well - today is day 24....and apart from some weak moments at Starbucks, it is going really well! I have had less headaches, not nearly as bloated and I'm down a few pounds. I think the biggest change is that I have sooo much more energy. I have gone pretty much sugar free, except the occasionally chai tea with organic cane sugar. I haven't found the agave nectar in either of the stores I shop at, so I am still on the search.

I actually got my free trial of the Clean Eating magazine in the mail today, so I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes.

My hubby is enjoying the recipes but he is complaining he's hungry b/c he is not eating every 2-3 hrs so of course he's going to be hungry. I am absolutely not hungry, and I am not looking at it as a diet. I am enjoying the way I am feeling and being more conscious of my food choices. I will probably continue beyond my 100 day goal b/c I am committed to the philosophy.
