Time to Eat-Clean!

Good stuff. I just wanted to make it clear to anyone reading that it is not a 'diet' per se, but a way of life. Its definitely the best way to eat so I love to hear from others who agree!


Clean Eating magazine is also a fantastic resource for recipes if you are looking for some new ones.  The photos make you want to try everything in it.  I think the next one is the Nov/Dec issue which is always fun for holiday recipes. 

 

And I'm always looking for new health and fitness blogs so I'll check out your blog and blogroll for sure.

No need for any sort of diet or lifestyle change on my end.  I suppost i've been 'eating clean' for as long as i can remember and am happy just how I am :)

I try to eat that way as well. Balance is key as sometimes you need a little white sugar!

 

Here is a quick and easy dish I made last night for my dinner last night and will be my lunch for the next few days:

 

1 cup quinoa

1 can low sodium black beans (rinsed and drained.  You could use dry beans as well)

1 cup fresh salsa

 

Mix and eat!

 

Quinoa is a great protein, especially if you aren't eating as much meat.  I only eat poultry and fish and only 2-3 times a week, so I need to keep my protein intake up.

Trimalusta - I love quinoa! Great alternate source of protein.  And that recipe sounds yummy!   I usually eat it for breakfast or in soup so its great to hear what others have come up with!

 

My new favorite recipe is a Green Monster....Its a smoothie with many variations, but with one standard ingredient: spinach!    Good source of fibre, folate, iron and calcium.

 

Today's green monster was made with:
 

1 tbsp of ground flax

1 banana

4 cups of baby spinach

1 tbsp of agave nectar

1 cup of frozen mixed berries

1 cup of almond milk

1 cup of ice

 

Blend all the ingredients (except the ice) until smooth, add the ice and blend again.  If you don't want to add the agave nectar, it might be a little more bitter, but still delicious. Or you can sub with honey or another natural sweetner like molasses.

 

It is sooo tasty and jammed packed with nutrients.

 Yum!

Eating clean is awesome! and pretty easy to do!!! I totally recommend it to anyone who is trying to eat healthier. The best part about this diet is that you can eat almost anything! They have 2 delicious cookie recipes - oatmeal cookies and almond butter chocolate chunk - they are truely amazing both in taste and texture, which is rare for healthy treats!

 

If you are thinking of getting started, I recommend picking up her clean eating magazine and trying a few of the recipes in there. It will give you a good idea of whats ahead!

I second this!! Eating Clean is not a diet - it truly is a way of life...its the best, most well rounded, treat allowing way of eating ever! And the foods are delicious!!

This is EXACTLY the plan I follow, and I love Tosca's book!  I think the most important thing is to consider the "eat clean" principals, but make sure that you are doing what is comfortable for you.  I always suggest people drop one bad habit and add one good habit at a time.  This way you are gradually changing your lifestyle...as opposed to participating in a crash diet that can't be maintained.  For me, Tosca's recipes get a little elaborate, so I tweak her ingredients to what suite me.

3) Cut out the white - white sugar, white flour, white rice
4) Reducing saturated fats by choosing lean meat and most cheese (the cheese will be the toughy for me...mmm...cheese); no transfats
5) Eating every 2-3 hours, but having mini-meals rather than 3 square meals a day

The principles are simple, read labels, don't consume things you can't pronounce and eat a little protein, fat and complex carbs every meal.

Basically, it is basic nutrition without the crap from take-out, fast-food, or pre-packaged items...oh and no alcohol....DH won't cut out beer, but I don't really drink much anyways so when I do I will choose heart healthy red wine instead.

Wish me luck and I'll be sure to keep you guys posted on my progress and challenges!
